R30 was filmed on Rush s 30th Anniversary tour in 2004 on September 24 at the Festhalle in Frankfurt. The R30 concerts showcased the band s entire career with tracks from the early seventies onwards. The show was originally released on DVD worldwide in 2005 and then on Blu-ray in North America only in 2009. Eight tracks were cut from the show for the DVD release. These were then added back in for the North American Blu-ray release but this contained no bonus features. Now for the first time we are releasing a Blu-ray version which contains the full show and over 2 hours of bonus material that originally featured on a second disc in the DVD set to give the most complete version of R30 possible. TRACKLISTING: 1) R30 Overture 2) The Spirit Of Radio 3) Force Ten 4) Animate 5) Subdivisions 6) Earthshine 7) Red Barchetta 8) Roll The Bones 9) Bravado 10) YYZ 11) The Trees 12) The Seeker 13) One Little Victory 14) Tom Sawyer 15) Dreamline 16) Secret Touch 17) Between The Wheels 18) Mystic Rhythms 19) Red Sector A 20) Der Trommler 21) Resist 22) Heart Full Of Soul 23) 2112 24) La Villa Strangiato 25) By-Tor And The Snow Dog 26) Xanadu 27) Working Man 28) Summertime Blues 29) Crossroads 30) Limelight

Not sure if the show was shot in hi-def and then given an upgrade for this blu-ray, but the picture is fine. The opening scene with the animated album cover graphics is a bit soft and mushy looking but once the footage moves to the band on stage everything looks great.
The HD-DTS soundtrack is excellent - more clarity than previously on the dvd, with surround sound effects more present in the mix.
There are 6 songs added back in to the show, but you'd be hard pressed to spot them unless you compared running orders, as the quality is pretty seamless. The band opted to drop them from the original release to avoid duplication with the earlier Rio dvd, but you can also hear why these songs might have been dropped at the editing stage. Alex's guitar goes way out of tune on YYZ, and although he struggles heroically you can see on his face that it's a train wreck, and on a couple of the others Ged's voice mis-pitches in a few places. But hey, that's live music for you.
If you haven't seen this set before, it's worth a spin - the band's first shows on European shores after a lengthy absence, and they give a good account of themselves on this particular night. Ged's voice is arguably on better form than on the more recent Time Machine set, and the guitars also sparkle and have better sound separation than on the slightly muddy TM mix.
All the extras on the 2nd dvd are now also on the one blu-ray disc so it's a nice compact package.
Roll on the Clockwork Angels set next week!
The original DVD release (deluxe edition) had 8 tracks cut, apparently due to repetition on the earlier Rio release, but I seem to remember they weren't happy with one or two moments during the songs cut. Plus the DVD had a host of extras, interviews' live promos and 'easter eggs'.
They released the full show on Blu-ray in the States, but with no extras. I bought this too as it was actually multi-region. I think Alex added a DTS audio tracks too - so it was a must!!!
Now R30 is released in full, on blu-ray, with all the extras, sounds tracks and easter eggs - all on one nice disc.
As for the show, well - it's absolute class. A fantastic retrospective setlist covering every album to date (apart from Presto) and played with so much feel and fun! Subsequent tours arguably may have been better for different reasons, but this is the benchmark tour! The bobbleheads intro to the second set, including synchronised 'nodding' to the bass riff in Tom Sawyer is hilarious.

Note; this US import is region free and will play on UK PS3 & Blu ray players.
A must buy for any fan with Blu ray.
Not long to wait for R40 now. (Neil should have finished changing nappy's by then)
As technology progresses and time goes by Bluray now gives us uncompromising quality on a single disc. The picture transfer is crisp and excellent and sound is what you expect from Rush and Rich Chycki(Producer) brilliant. The 8 missing songs from the original DVD make this worth the purchase price for all fans. A great 3 hour tour de force of Rush celebrating 30 years. Roll on the 40th, well by the time they tour again it will probably be the 42nd anniversary, but it will be worth the wait.
the full show in perfect production, makes me wonder why the left the "missing songs" out in the first place.
stunning visuals, stunning sound, RUSH live on stage...stunning.
a must have for all RUSH followers.
Now on to the concert itself, if anyone has seen the DVD of R-30, you know how good it is, the blu ray simply brings it out much more. Pristine sound and quality, as well as 8 bonus tracks make this really great value for money.
If anyone hasn't seen this amazing concert, I would thoroughly recommend buying it. If you haven't seen Rush live before, it would be a great introduction to this amazing band in the environment where they thrive.
For anyone wanting the bonus features which were included on the original DVD, unfortunately they are not on this disc; it is purely the concert you are getting. Lets be honest though, who really wants to see some promo videos when you've got this great concert?! At least it gives people an excuse to keep their original DVD, so it isn't too bad.
