The RODE M2 is a rugged live-performance condenser microphone designed to provide a full frequency response and premium performance on stage. Featuring a tailored-for-stage super-cardioid polar pattern and an internally shock mounted 1/2" condenser capsule, the M2 provides a high quality alternative to dynamic microphones for live performance. The addition of an on/off switch adds versatility for artists that prefer greater control over their sound, while a lock ensures that the microphone cannot be accidentally switched. The RODE M2 live condenser microphone is designed and made in Australia, and covered by RODE Microphones' industry leading 10 year warranty.

It's very sensitive and doesn't have super-strong off-axis rejection, so it's slightly harder to use in a live setting than a Sure SM58, for example. Also, I would have preferred it without the switch - but it's lockable and at this price I'm not complaining. A 10-year warranty is pretty awesome too.
If you want to give singers a lift give this mic a try!
I bought a second one for use with my Boss RC-30 loop station. Just a bit of level (between 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock) goes further than the SM58 which needed to be cranked up to almost 5 o'clock! On/off switch a bonus, especially great for the looper.
I use the M2 for live work (amazingly no feedback!) as well as live studio and studio work. It also replaces my studio condenser Rode NT2. The NT2, though a great studio mic, is omni-di and so picks up the laptop fan clearly. The M2's super-cardioid really helps cut it down.
The M2 works beautifully with the TC-Helicon VoiceTone T1, as it really sweetens and warms up the vocals even further.
This is now my most favourite mic. And for half the price of a Shure SM58! Not sure why the Shure has remained an industry work horse...

It works great and produces excellent audio. My PC makes a lot of unwanted noise but the M2 copes surprisingly well and adjusting the gain on the 2i2 reduces it to a negligible, almost non existent, level. This microphone seems to work really well in an environment it wasn't intended for. In the end, a really good buy.
Warning for those unfamiliar with XLR: This microphone produces mono that will only come out of one of the speakers unless you either; buy an XLR splitter so that you can record L and R; use software to duplicate the recording (The free software Audacity will do this); or use two microphones to produce true stereo.

Works well as part of our church audio system feeding into a Europower 1000 amplifier. Switch all power on before opening output controls to avoid whistles and hums.Published on 27 Jun. 2014 by Alan J Chapman
