(A) display of the highest order of the potency and salability of pithiness. A journalist first, but also a rhetorician and provocateur, Mr Hitchens's oeuvre is indeed highly quotable, as this compendium illustrates. Culled by Windsor Mann from Mr Hitchens's essays, articles and TV appearances, this book is a gleeful array of biting quips, twisty barbs and some disarmingly well-turned phrases.
Quotable Hitchens presents a cavalcade of Vanity Fair s notorious provocateur-in-chief Christopher Hitchens s finest flaming arrows, mud balls, and political grenades. --Vanity Fair, May 2011
Without troubling to do the research, you could safely say that Hitchens, formerly the TLS s American correspondent, has a view on everything. Now you can do the research. --Times Literary Supplement, UK, 3/18/11

It is also useful while writing speeches; quotations are always useful in speeches, and this book gives you a vast amount of quotations of a vast amount of topics. I used a quotation from this book while I was debating with a friend whether or not abortion can ever be justified, and the quotation spiced up the conversation immensely. I also used a quote from this book while writing a public speech on Mother Teresa, which I am performing in a few days time.
This is not, however, the sort of book that you read cover to cover. Instead, it is the sort of book that you dip in and out of when you feel like seeing Hitchens' opinion on a certain issue.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an interesting book that is certain to fire up opinions and start interesting debates.
"In the UK, the Queen is the head of the church and head of the state, as wellas the Armed Forces - a state of affairs that is so ridiculous that many people hardly notice it."
