Product Description

Product Description

All four episodes from series one, and all 12 episodes from series two, of the American medical investigation drama. Jack Klugman plays crusading medical examiner Dr Quincy, who frequently spots the forensic clues the police have missed and goes up against entrenched authority in his quest for justice. In series one, Quincy takes on City Hall after he finds several unexplained deaths could be linked. In series two, Quincy's investigations see him crossing swords with his old professor in a tense murder case, and accusing a university of using murder victims in the dissecting ward. Episodes from series one are: 'Go Fight City Hall - To the Death!'; 'Who's Who in Neverland?'; 'A Star is Dead'; and 'Hot Ice, Cold Hearts'. Episodes from series two are: 'Snake Eyes (Parts One and Two)'; 'The Thigh Bone's Connected to the Knee Bone'; 'Visitors in Paradise'; 'The Two Sides of Truth'; 'Hit and Run at Danny's'; 'Has Anybody Here Seen Quincy?'; 'A Good Smack in the Mouth'; 'The Hot Dog Murder'; 'An Unfriendly Radiance'; 'Sullied Be Thy Name'; 'Valleyview'; and 'Let Me Light the Way'.

From Amazon.co.uk

When Jack Klugman played Oscar Madison in television’s The Odd Couple, it seemed no role could better suit him—until he stepped into the shoes of Dr. Quincy, the stubborn, crusading medical examiner in the trailblazing series (1976-1983) that spawned the medical investigation genre and earned Klugman four Emmy nominations. Beginning with the first installment, "Go Fight City Hall--To the Death," the series’ socially conscious, quick-paced, and mostly believable storylines are an engaging blend of mystery, sleuthing, sarcasm, and romance stirred together into an action-packed drama. Each episode, such as the award-winning show, "The Thigh Bone’s Connected to the Knee Bone," probes contemporary issues and promotes justice while maintaining a healthy dose of humor. A strong supporting cast includes Robert Ito (as Quincy’s loyal lab assistant, Sam) and John S. Ragin (as skeptical boss, Dr. Asten). Jamie Lee Curtis makes a cameo appearance in "Visitors in Paradise," while additional celebrity guests include Buddy Hackett, Donna Mills, Kim Cattrall, and June Lockhart. The picture and sound quality are solid and each story begins with a short onscreen synopsis and original airdate. The only deficit in an otherwise stellar effort is the noticeable lack of bonus material such as vintage interviews, a making-of featurette, or a well-deserved tribute to Klugman. (Ages 12 and older) --Lynn Gibson

I was thrilled too bits when i saw quincy dvd set had been released as this is one of my favourite TV shows ever!! I can remember watching it on bbc in the early afternoon I think the way Jack Klugman played Quincy was brilliant which was what made the show as good as it was!! I was just amazed at how long it took for it to be released on dvd! have been been waiting so long for the release and i cant wait till further seasons 3,4 etc...to be released which i hope will be soon!! If u have never watched it and are a fan of crime and investigation type shows too me this is an absolute essential collection ,which is a lot better than the more modern shows like CSI!! Buy it now u wont be disappointed!

first of all I want to point out that I think quincy is no predecessor to Shows like CSI etc. Personaly I feel it was one on it's own a true original that no other crime show has come close to.

unlike csi Quincy is real, Human , warm and is not afraid to talk about tough issues.

Jack Klugman is superb as quincy M,E the los angeles county coroner with a heart. his long suffering boss Dr robert Asten 9John s Ragin) relys on quincys professionalism to get results and he hangs on to the bitter end to get them.

Sam (Robert Ito)is Quincys assistant and best friend. always there for Quincy when it matters most.

Danny (Val Bisoglio) is always there with the food and the listening ear. The stories usualy finish off in his retaurant. The humour nicely balances out the serious issues dealt with in the series.

lieutenant Monahan (Garry Whalberg) is the hardworking cop. Mildy irritated by quincy's thoroughness he is always glad to have his friend on hand to help the investigation.

Sgt Brill (Joseph roman) is monaghans assistant and partner as hardworking but not involved in as many big story lines.

seasons 1&2 are great. the highlight? Go fight city hall to the death. finds quincy fighting his boss and other cynics to prove that the strange murders that have been going on are connected. The discovery of a girls body killed by having her neck broken starts a chain of events that leads to mexico and more intruige.

there are more wonderful episodes a good smack in the mouth involves Dr Astens wife when she picks up a small frightened boy who is wandering around at night. quincy soon has to figure out why the boy had run away and which one of his parents has been hitting him .

I'm thrilled seasons 1&2 are out on DVd now more please! pretty please..

Just when you thought you had seen all the re runs on tv, a box set pops up with some episodes that have not been shown for a long time. Quincy is a great tv show and even better without ad breaks. The only disappointing thing is the later series have not been released in the uk where as in the states you can buy every single episode in one complete box set. Come on you sales types, we want more episodes........

Great TV. Interesting to see how the series develops - Q's girlfriend and yacht hardly feature after the first few episodes (a good thing) and the content becomes darker, more hard-hitting and based on real social issues. As a social record it's a fascinating window into the prevailing views of the time, e.g. Quincy and Monahan are passionate (as only they can be) about rescuing a physically abused child. We're led to believe today that people didn't really care about those things as much in the 1970's. There was a total absence of safeguarding procedures right enough, but the writers built statistics and important social messaging into the script, as well as recent scientific developments, such as the Stockholm syndrome. (A documentary on how they wrote the episodes would be worthwhile). These were always the strengths of Quincy for me: great, over-the-top acting, with tight screenplays which draw from social reality and medical advancements. It's annoying that series 3 and beyond box-sets are more expensive, but I just might have to save up for them.

I enjoyed this box set of season one and two and will purchase season three soon. It does look a bit dated but the storylines are still applicable now as they were in the 80's. The DVD quality and sound are really good and Jack Klugman who plays Quincy is believable and passionate. Would recommend this DVD set.

I was delighted to see this box set come onto general sale in the UK. This is well worth the money for it's a joy to watch. Dr. Quincy MD (played by Jack Klugman) is the ever loveable 'hard-in-your-face' tireless, slueth, who in-between murder investigations, finds time to hold down a full-time job in pathology at the city morgue. He leads a very active social life (with girlfriends, bar and eating out etc) whilst still living his dream on a part refurbished boat in dry dock. Whilst this is a totally unrealistic slant on "real working life" it forms a great viewing experience. Highly entertaining, it is escapism at its best. Jack Klugman throws himself fully into the character part and never once wavers from his strong convictions. He is an inspiration for energy and leading crusader for the hope of good triumphing over evil. Personally, I can't wait for the European release of the rest of the series. Like McMillan & Wife, we have only the first part of the series to whet our appetites. Bring on the rest please, we will not be disappointed I'm sure.
