Product Description

Review

Award-winning quilter Nikki presents over 20 designs on a floral theme. In this recent title in the Love to Sew series materials and techniques are fully explained, and detailed instructions with templates follow to ensure that both beginner and more experienced can achieve success. A delightful book packed with small inspirational projects that are fun to make.-East Kent Embroiderers' Guild There's nothing quite like this book on the market, so it's a must have for anyone interested in quilted flowers. It shows 20 beautiful and unique projects to give as gifts, or keep as a wonderful treat. Clear step by step instructions make the projects accessible for beginners. with plenty to inspire the more experienced.-Machine Knitting Monthly All of the projects in this book are inspired by flowers and are a great way to learn quilting without having to buy a lot of fabric. These are all small items, and a fun way of recycling leftovers from larger projects. There are twenty projects in here and yes, this book is suitable for beginners. More experienced quilters will also find much in here to please, particularly because there are none of the large and challenging projects normally found in books on quilting. Instead there are greetings cards, bags, bunting, cushions, tree decorations, a phone case and, of course, a quilt, but a mini one. The introduction states that once you have made a few of the items in here you will be almost ready to tackle a full-sized project. You can learn the stitches and what you need to own in order to start quilting (both hand and machine), which fortunately is not much if you already sew. Each project features a whole page photograph, templates and written instructions as well as a list of what you need, helpfully including a list of all the tools. This is a great little book for a beginner as it isn't daunting, and as you make up the simple and useful items it will teach you most of the basics of quilting.-Myshelf.com

I thought this book would be good for new patterns for quilted flowers, but only the one on the front cover lived up to expectations. I was very disappointd with the contents and had I had the chance to look inside in advance I wouldn't have bothered to buy it. If you want a book which takes up two pages to show you how to stamp a flower on some fabric, then this may be the book for you, but it wasn't for me so I returned it!

I like this book as it is simply laid out the only down side for me was I had to have a paper copy as I like my books electronically. Having said that it is a good one for reference and well worth having in the library.

Format: Paperback
Part of the Love to Sew series, this book presents twenty projects to sew. Quilting and applique are often used as interchangeable words. In reality they mean different things. Quilting is the stitching to hold together the layers of a quilt, applique is when you cut out shapes and apply them with stitching to the surface. This book has mainly applique flowers. Other techniques include yoyo's, fabric postcards, patchwork, cathedral windows quilting, fabric paints and the gorgeous hydrangea book cover with its freeform felt flowers. Projects include cushions, cards, bags, book covers, table runner. bunting, needle case and more. Whilst it might not be strictly quilting, it is an enjoyable book. Templates are given at the back.

I found this very useful. It gives simple ideas, techniques and sewing projects - all of which look achievable with my limited knowledge. Not a book for the more advanced sewer but for good for the not-very-confident beginner.
