People are sometimes confused by Jacks solo career after Cream. They should not be his dozen TRUE SOLO albums from 1969 Songs for a Tailor to 2003 More Jack than God are totally consistent. Brilliant Songs written with Master Wordsmith Pete Brown, world class musicians and of course that famous voice and bass.

The Confusion has arisen with his Non Solo collaborative works which cover everything from Free Jazz, the avant garde to Hard Rock. Although they have their moments of genius to,these are really for the devotees. Anything with Jacks name alone on the sleeve is a true gem.

This one dates from 1989 and reunites him with Ginger Baker on two tracks. Alan Holdsworth, Bernie Worrell, Tony Williams, Vernon Reid & Albert Collins are among the luminaries on this album. Slightly more U.S. radio friendly (it was recorded at Electric Ladyland Studios) than previous solo efforts, it features the myriad of chord changes and rythmns we expect fom Jack. Life on Earth, Make Love, No Surrender, Obsession would grace any rock album ever! Another Solo Masterpiece.

Get them all: Songs for a tailor,Harmony Row,Out of the Storm,Hows Tricks, I've always wanted to do this, Automatic, Somethin' Els, Deserted Cities Live,Monkjack, Shadows in the Air & More Jack than God. The quality control NEVER slips.

In my view one of his best CDs. The base line for No Surrender is still in my head even tho' I lost the CD some years ago, surely a test of time. I cannot understand why such a superb CD is about the only one he has done which is no longer available. This has to be highly recommended to any Jack Bruce fan.

I already had the original 1989 Epic Records version of this CD, but was able to pick up this Acadia Records remaster cheap, and it was also advertised as having a bonus track. When I received it and did a comparison, these were my findings:

First of all, I noted that the original version also had the bonus track...my bad...

The original booklet has the lyrics, the remaster doesn't, BUT it has a three page history of the album...

The new version has a cool "fake record" design on the disc...

Last, but obviously NOT the least, the sound quality has been improved, not by great leaps and bounds, but when I "cranked up" the track "Hey Now Princess" on the Epic CD, the low end was "thumpy" and distorted, the mid-range muddy, and the high end indistinct. The remaster is subtly better, when I increased the volume the music sounded better, as it should, with well-defined bass guitar, and minimal distortion...

Bottom line? If your a Jack Bruce fan, or want to dip your toe in his catalog, this is a fine album, and definitely the version to obtain. As a previous reviewer noted, the production is a little dated at times, and in my opinion overly "Bass-y", but hey now, this is a JACK BRUCE album! 'Nuff said......

Ginger Baker, Bernie Worrell of Funkadelic, Dio's guitar player Vinnie Appice with fierce riffs, other musician like Tony Wiliams and Albert Collins maki it all tohgether with Mudbone vocals as extra support - what else you need - perfect and rare songs by |Pete Brown - believe me it works!!! Jack and Ginger tried to reenter US market in 89 with couple of TV shows and concerts (check out bootlegs) - it was not a commercial success but should be in all terms. I bought it on NYC in 90 as the cutout.

One of Jack's best solo albums. And that is saying something.
The title track is one of the best. Totally mesmerising. Awesome composing, instrumentation and singing.
