It has a good pace, it keeps you alert and after few pages you feel close to Jerry-Jules-Pete. After all, they are common people just like us ... to a certain extent :)).
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this 'different' kind of novel and am looking forward to the sequel. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read something that is not too heavy but still has something unpredictable to offer.
'so Jerry checked it at once'.....'they immediately ordered from the menu'....etc. We are regaled with irrelevant detail; before they go out - they dress, before they dress - they quickly wash.... In the middle of the most important thing to happen to mankind for 1000 years, they go to bed early..... The chosen one, Jerry is a dimwit. If the fate of all mankind rests in him, then we are doomed.
The puzzles are okay - understandable but not necessarily logically correct enough to be solvable by someone other than a character in a book. They are certainly not of the calibre to identify an exceptional being - though if they were, it's Pete, not Jerry that solves them, anyway.
I assumed this was self published, because I cannot conceive of a Publisher taking it on.
Don't waste your money.
This book is a crossover between a normal novel set in the world of today with fantasy elements where the logic of our world as we know it is challenged. Unlike the majority of other novels in the fantasy space, it is firmly set in our existing time where everything is normal other than those few characters who are a part of the fantasy realm. It is well written and continues at a nice pace throughout. There is a clear attempt to develop the characters in such a way as you get to know them. There are a series of puzzles to be solved but these are incidental to the character development. Let the characters themselves solve them for you and go with the flow. While the storyline does meander through their lives there is a clear logic to it and an end goal. However, the plot is not resolved at the end of the book and we will have to wait for a sequel I guess.
