Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 March 2014Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseGreat book on classic cars. My son loves it. Just be aware it is smaller than I guessed, sort of a5 size, but the amount of pages made up for that surprise as it is quite a thick book with loads of info.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 October 2011Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis was the first thing I ever bought on Amazon, many, many years ago, and yet it is still a firm coffee table favourite. Everyone who picks it up flicks until they find something that takes their eye, and spends far longer than they would expect browsing. Terrifically interesting book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 July 2010Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI love to just pick this book every now and then to look at, and read a little about, some cars from the past and I love that I can do this for a long time, because this is one THICK book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 April 2014Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis could have been an absolutely super book but commercial interests of book publishing appear to have counted for more than common sense.
Imagine you were asked to name the 130 coolest cars that were produced before 2001 (when this book was first published) and without going back to before WW2.
Some are easy - the AC Cobra, Ferrari Daytona, E-Type Jaguar, Lamborghini Countach, Porsche 911 and you can fill in others around those marques.
Then you've got classic popular cars that you and I can afford and may have owned. We'll each have our choices but there will probably be plenty of common ground around classics like the Mini and the Golf GTI.
These are all in the book but what you probably wouldn't expect from a worldwide, European or British perspective are the following:
5 Buicks
5 Cadillacs
12 Chevrolets (although I won't argue against the Corvette Stingray or the Camaro.
4 Chryslers
8 Fords (again the GT40 and Shelby Mustang are clear candidates but the "normal" cars are American rather than Cortinas, Escorts, Capris etc)
3 Oldsmobiles
and plenty of other less well known American cars.
My ignorance may betray my opinions on some of these cars but their inclusion means that only two Lamborghinis and two Maseratis are included, only two Aston Martins and no Bristols or ISOs, Only one Alfa, no Mazda MX5... Even one of the Maseratis I'm iffy about. I'm not sure many would go for the rebadged De Tomaso Longchamp which they called the Kyalami as the second coolest Maser'.
Part of the fun in these books is to disagree with the author and spot your favourites that would be in your list. Unfortunately there are too many because the list is biased in favour of American cars. You could understand it if the book was written by an American and published in America but Quentin is a British car expert and DK published the book in London.
It's a shame because the book looks great. Plenty of colour photos of the individual car for the chosen models taken from different angles. It's not as good as having them in front of you to inspect but it's a much better impression than most car books give you.
Just like the DK travel books, there is plenty of interesting stuff to read as well with the emphasis on design details.
Perhaps I'll learn to appreciate some of the American cars but I'll always believe that there are too many cool cars missing from this book for it to be worth 5 stars.
For anyone who would like to see an updated version with cars like the Bugatti Veyron and the Tesla in it, there is one Cool Cars. There is considerable overlap between the two books and the new one still has too many American cars for my liking and excludes ground-breaking cars like the McLaren F1.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 August 2008Format: PaperbackAs we probably all know, Quentin Willson is one of the great names in motoring journalism. He's one of the main motoring voices that you can't mistake, along with perhaps Jeremy Clarkson.
Quentin Willson has become internationally known for his wit, style and enthusiasm towards this subject. He's knowledgeable in every way, a classic car nut - and all of his enthusiastic remarks, reviews and quips are brought together in this one pocket sized book.
A great read from cover to cover, read in order or dipped into as a light read - this makes great reference sense.
So, if you like cars, and you like Quention Willson...look no further!
This book includes a wide variety of every car from across the globe, from the Austin Mini to the AC Cobra, the MGB to the Ford Edsel, and many other cars including the Daimler Dart, the Ford Galaxie, the MG Midget, the Triumph TR6, the Lotus Elan, Elite...and many, many more.
512 pages of utter joy.
Highly recommended to anyone who likes cars, likes Quentin Willson and fancies reading a bit about both.
Superb read

Beautifully put together book with excellent photos, drawings and information. My grandson loves cars and loves the book! It's predominantly classic cars so he's learned a lot.
R. GrantReviewed in Australia on 29 October 20201.0 out of 5 stars Too small and bad binding
This looks great in the pictures here but because the book is so small and bound tightly, and the images of the cars are spread across both pages, the book bends and obscures most of the middle section of the car. It is a pity as they are great photos, but you can't really see them.

ToryReviewed in Canada on 5 April 20215.0 out of 5 stars Great Book with Info!
Bought this for my son's 9th birthday. He loves it! Despite what other reviews may say this is a great book for kids (I'd say older than 6 or maybe 7). It offers a lot of information about different types of cars. It can be a lot of reading but who says it has to be done all at once? Happy kiddo here for sure :)
