The author and his son set off to make a documentary about their exploits, taking them from Canada to London and on to South Africa. Born in South Africa the author describes and visits the battlefields and military cemeteries and meets many characters of modern South Africa and it doesn't provide a happy picture.Complemented with photographs and also visits Kruger National Park and the battlefields of the Zulu wars (Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift) this book makes and interesting read for those who enjoy military history together with a travel around modern South Africa.

Fascinating and often filled with humor, "Searching for the Queen's Cowboys" gives a unique insight not only into the exploits of the Canadian squadron but into the modern-day problems of South Africa, a country still impacted by its violent and turbulent past.
