QUEEN Queen Rocks (1997 Dutch 18-track compilation picture printed CD compilation album includes No-One But You We Will Rock You One Vision and more lyric booklet picture sleeve in an stickered case with an embossed inlay tray)

Amazon.co.uk

A compilation--intended, perhaps, to prove that, for all the effete connotations of their name and reputation, this band actually could cut loose when it suited them. But was there ever any doubt? Sceptics should bear in mind that, as well as Dame Freddie, Queen also contained Brian May and Roger Taylor: the former a singularly ambitious lead guitarist, the latter an utterly unreconstructed rocker. And their musical input--together with the calm demeanour of bassist John Deacon--was enough to anchor the occasionally fey leanings of their lead singer. With only a few exceptions, the tracks here fall into one of two categories: either riff-driven slabs of boogie ("Tie Your Mother Down", the proto-speed-metal of "Sheer Heart Attack"), or epic rockers ("Now I'm Here", "Seven Seas Of Rhye", the magnificent "It's Late"). "I Want It All" today sounds more like a manifesto than ever, while claims of their decline are silenced by the inclusion of some later classics--"One Vision" and "Hammer To Fall" (from The Works). It wasn't all moustaches and frilly tutus, you know. --Andrew McGuire

OK, so this is a pretty unnecessary compilation album of Queen's heavier side, though it's impossible to argue with the quality of the material on offer.

What makes this really worthwhile for the non-casual fan however are the two new tracks - 'No-One But You' doesn't really fit in with the theme of the album, being more of a ballad, but it's nice to hear Brian and Roger sharing vocals on this tribute to Freddie. There's also a 'retake' of 'I Can't Live With You', which basically seems to involve Brian, Roger and John going back and re-recording some of the guitar, drum and bass parts of the song while (obviously) retaining Freddie's vocals. It's not THAT different from the version on 'Innuendo', but it's still worthwhile hearing a new take.

By it's very nature, this will appeal either to those casual fans who haven't yet decided to take the plunge and buy the bands complete back catalogue, and the hardcore faithful after the 2 new songs.

A great rock album demonstrating Queen at their best. If you're still discovering the music of Queen, buy Hits I, II & III first, then maybe "Innuendo", "The Works" or "A Kind of Magic" then try this as an intro to some of their rockier, heavier material.
If you like the sound of "Tie Your Mother Down", "Keep Yourself Alive" or "Stone Cold Crazy" then you're ready to start discovering the early albums, so get a copy of "A Day at the Races" whilst if "Tear it Up", "Put Out the Fire" or "I Can't Live With You" is more your taste then check out their later stuff including "Innuendo" or perhaps "The Game".
A great selection, despite it borrowing heavy from some of the "Hits" collections!

If you are an ardent Queen fan you have probably have most of these tracks on other albums. It is still an excellent album in it's own right however. The album's final track "No-one but you" is a touching ballad which breaks up the overall tempo of the album. Some of the old favourites are there along with a few of the less well known tracks certified as classics by the Queen fans. A perefct introduction to Queen music and if you've never heard "Tear it up", that's worth the money alone. Rock music at it's best.

Even if you already have a queen greatest hits package i would reccomend this. It shows queens heavier side and proves they weren't just a commercial pop/rock band. The album also show cases roger taylors drumming more with great solos in tracks like sheer heart attack and keep yoursef alive

I'm not so sure this compilation would really appeal to casual Queen fans, or the general public, as it features some of Queens more obscure, less accessible classics. However, the track listing is very generous, and the quality of music is excellent. Paricular highlights are 'Keep Yourself Alive', and 'Sheer Heart Attack'. What also makes this cd stand out from most best ofs is that the songs included on here are the album versions, which usually have extra middle sections, and longer intro's than the single versions you might find on greatest hits 1, 2 and 3.

When I was a kid my dad used to take me out on the trucks with him to numerous parts of the UK. He worked for a large motor company and was a huge fan of Queen.
This CD reminds me of being five years to ten years old, singing along with my dad and trucking down the motorway across England while high fiving to Queen. I love it. You should love it too.

It's Queen, and they're rocking out! Go listen to every song on this on the internet, then buy it because it's great!!!!!

I'm a collector of the band. Although the content of the CD is the same, is not the cover that indicated in the description. And that's important for collectors.
The cd that came to me is the classic cover and I hoped the cover indicating the description.

who does not like Queen or at least "Bohemian Rhapsody" or maybe "We are the Champions" ,well this cd has them all and more but to be honest there is a plethora of Queen,s greatest hits but this one seems to have more of the top hits and if you look around then you can get it for under a £1 as I did
