From Sarah Bradford, the best-selling author of George VI, Elizabeth and Diana, the definitive biography of Queen Elizabeth II, now celebrating the Platinum Jubilee -- her 70th year on the throne
Elizabeth II has lived through the Abdication, the Blitz and World War Two, the sex and spy scandals of the swinging sixties, the Cold War and the nuclear threat, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and a global pandemic. She has known 14 US Presidents including JFK, Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump, and other world leaders like President Mandela and Pope John XXII. Her Prime Ministers have ranged from Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher to Boris Johnson.
Her own family experiences, a mixture of happiness and crisis, weddings and divorces, and, in the case of Diana, violent death, have been lived in the glare of tabloid headlines. More than 2 billion people watched the wedding of her grandson Prince William to Catherine Middleton in 2010 shortly before she made the first State Visit to Ireland by a British monarch for 100 years. Our world has changed more in her lifetime than in any of her predecessors': the Queen has remained a calm presence at the centre, earning the respect of monarchists and republicans. How has she done it?
'Bradford has a real grasp of history and the ability to make it spark into new life' Sunday Telegraph
'Bradford's forte, ever since she was a history-mad girl, is thinking herself into other lives' Daily Telegraph

It seemed to be a rehash of other books and not well written at all, quite a few errors exist and I was quite disappointed.
We watched as the
plane descended
Then a small, sad
figure was seen.
Her father's life
had just ended
Ans she had
become our Queen.
Her new life of
duty had started,
Her ministers waited
below
And although she
was broken-hearted
She couldn't allow it
to show.
Behind her, concerned
and steady
Was the man who
would give much
support,
She had regal bearing
already
Remembering all she'd
been taught.
And now 63 years
later
She's seen and
experienced so much.
There've been times
when the press would
berate her,
As they thought she
was out of touch.
But she always survives
the bad times,
Those moments of
stormy weather.
She carries on doing
her duty
And is seen to be
stronger than ever.
Speaking as one of
her subjects
I'm sure we're all glad
she's still here.
We're lucky to have
such a monarch
A figurehead we hold
so dear.
At times our prospects
seem dire
But we think of the
good times we've seen.
So let's gather round
a bonfire,
Raise a glass, and give
thanks to our Queen.

I enjoyed Phyllida Nash's voice and after a few hours settled into listening. There was quite a lot of information I hadn't thought about and I liked the way the 'story' flowed.
As had been pointed out by others, there are some inaccuracies but for bed-time listening, this fulfilled a purpose.
However, this audio CD is a set of ten so whilst it's interesting listening, it's quite an investment of your time to get through the whole thing.
It would be a particularly good gift for an elderly fan of Royalty who might have more time on their hands. As it is I am getting snatches of this whilst I am in and out of the kitchen. Only three discs to go!
