Documentary record of the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, narrated by Laurence Olivier. The only feature-length document of the coronation to be filmed in Technicolor, the programme offers a glimpse into the pomp and ceremony of the occasion and approaches the event with a celebratory air. As well as footage of the ceremony itself, held at Westminster Abbey, coverage of the subsequent procession through London, with the streets lined with thousands of spectators, is included. Castleton Knight directs and produces, with music from Guy Warrack.

I'm portuguese, but for me this excepcional Queen of the UK, is also my Queen.
God Save the Queen.
To the two Canadian reviewers who complained about the DVD not being viewable - look at the product details section for the DVD. It states quite clearly that it is in PAL format, is for Region 2 and may not be viewable outside Europe. What more do you need? A one star review headed "Stinks" is not justified if the only problem with the product is the customer's inability to read simple information about it.
It is not likely that the world will ever see such grand coronation ceremony ever again.
There follows views of the procession to Westminster Abbey, followed by an edited version of the Coronation ceremony. We are shown Her Majesty`s entrance, the crowning, then the departure into the the streets of London.
Then comes a magnificent parade featuring the Armed Forces and guests, both from Britain and overseas, concluding with a wonderful sequence of Her Majesty on horseback.
The narration is, at times, rather "over-the-top" also, no image of industrial Britain is shown. Regarding the parade, one gets a little weary of hearing "Soldiers of the Queen!" All this apart, it is a wonderful film, and will prove invaluable both to historians and future generations.
But I have to differ about the DVD video quality. It starts off OK, but later clips are quite poor quality - similar to the effect of a transfer from VHS (hence 3 stars). I don't know what the original film looked like and whether the problem lies there, but I happened to see some snippets from the start on BBC4 this evening and the quality seemed noticeably better than on this DVD.

Pure magic. Olivier's narration is the perfect backdrop to this stunning film of the coronation. The editing keeps the film pacey but without you feeling that you've been cheated... Read morePublished 2 months ago by Amazon Customer
