4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad guide 12 Jun. 2014

This was a fairly decent strategy guide. I wanted more pictures of the monsters, and stuff in it. That being said, that is really my only complaint. The book is 100 percent accurate if you did want a good strategy guide for Quake. It will help you find the secret levels, and all of the secrets. If you are having difficulty playing Quake, get this guide and it will help.
4.0 out of 5 stars A neat collector's item for Quake fans 7 Nov. 2014

If you're willing to go that extra mile to find every secret of every level in Quake, then this book might be of use to you.

Just note that the maps are fairly tricky to follow. What you get for each level is a rough 2D map of a 3D space (always a tough call), a 'critical path' explaining just where you need to go to complete the map and a list of secrets and how to access them (these are also marked on the maps for your convenience)

You get some multiplayer tips and a fairly comprehensive description on Quake's sever-based multiplayer, including info on how it works, how it's different from peer-to-peer multiplayer ( a la Doom, Descent, etc) and how you can fool around using Quake's multiplayer component. there is also a basic troubleshooting section, which is quite a rarity for a strategy guide.

You also get a long list of console commands, but without any descriptive notes, which sort of defeats the purpose of having such a list, plus a row of Quake-related websites, most of which are dead or archived on the wayback machine.

Buy this book if you must find every secret or are a die-hard Quake collector
