I purchased the TS-253B to replace my TS-219P which I purchased in May 2010. The TS-219P was working but was taking too long processing QNAP software updates so I chose QNAP again based on reliability of the TS-219P and also the possibility that I could move the WD RED NAS HDDs into the TS-253B and migrate my data and configuration. The migration to the TS-253B was flawless! It just worked - the data folders and user configurations were migrated correctly for example. Migration took just minutes to move the HDDs and connect up the new NAS. It took me far longer to prepare for the migration, documenting my data content and making sure I could build the TS-253B from scratch if the migration failed.
The TS-253B is excellent. I like the display which can show configuration details and also provides status messages during start-up and firmware update. The spoken messages are interesting and can be turned-off if desired. Otherwise, the QNAP software runs much faster and provides all the functions I had on the TS-219P (which of course it should as both old and new devices are running the same QTS 4.3.3 firmware). I have not tried out the new features on the TS-253B; the USB-C connector may well prove a good solution to backing up my USB-C equipped laptop for example.
