Product description
The complete first series plus the original unbroadcast pilot.
"It is easily the best show on television". Jeremy Clarkson, The Sun.
"It is a show bursting with intelligence, originality and fun, as refreshing as a line of Colombians in an ice-cold shower- and perfect for smart-arses like myself who think they know everything". Dominik Diamond, Daily Star.
The comedy quiz that refreshes the parts other shows dont even have names for.
Here is the first, ground-breaking series of the programme that won Stephen Fry the Golden Rose of Montreux for the worlds best game-show host. BBC2s smash-hit comedy, now in its fourth season, is also the most popular programme of any kind on BBC4. Its a 26-year project, each series dealing with a different letter of the alphabet, and this is the one that started it all off. Here is an avalanche of askings on astronomy, anteaters, apples, Africa, aeroplanes, atoms, antelopes, anchovies, Antarctica and Azerbaijan all of it absolutely astonishing to Alan Davies (QIs resident loser and Stephen Frys favourite stud-muffin).
The friendliest show on British TV is graced by the cream of world-class comedy talent including Bill Bailey, Hugh Laurie, Rich Hall, Jo Brand, Meera Syall, Rob Brydon, Jeremy Clarkson, Jimmy Carr, Phill Jupitus, Sean Lock, Clive Anderson, Danny Baker, John Sessions, Jeremy Hardy, Linda Smith and Dave Gorman.
Discover the definitive answers to the questions you didnt even know existed. Why dont pigeons go to the movies? Why are there no Alsatians in the Spanish army? What flavour is the oldest known soup? How do otters kill crocodiles? And what is the name of the 23rd tallest tree in the world?
SPECIAL FEATURES Out-takes and extra bits. Dozens of extra factoids. Production teams audio commentary. Concealed elf-banter. Hidden Easter Eggs.

a) likes to laugh
b) enjoys British programs
c) understands that a lift is an elevator, not something you put in your boots to make you taller.
Although a few references to things strictly UK may go over your head, this is a not-to-miss series. There are some amazing factoids dispensed in this show, often regarding things you thought you knew. Or had been taught in school, but time and research has proven them to be otherwise.
In an effort ot gain points, contestants must give interesting answers, not necessarily correct ones. this often leads to side excursions into trivia. But it is never boring... always hilarious and interesting (Quite Interesting, to be exact.)
You may notice that Stephen Fry struggles a bit in the first episode while trying to get use to both reading off the teleprompter AND trying to corral the four contestants. But he does it with great aplomb. Alan Davies (pronounced Davis) the only regualr contestant is a great foil for Fry, usually coming up with the most obvious and obviously wrong answers but sometimes offering up amazing facts that surprise even Stephen Fry.
Watch these programs and then sit back and wait, impatiently, for the next series to be released. Each one better than the previous.
I've got my order in for this first set and look forward to seeing the pilot plus the outtakes. And to see these shows again -- they are so good that they bear repeat viewings.
The great thing about Qi is that those taking part are of a higher calibre than the usual panel game, they never appear to be there just because they have a book to flog or have just left the Big Brother house and are tenuously clinging to the dying seconds of their fame. People like John Sessions (rarely seen on TV these days) and Clive Anderson are genuinely very clever bunnies and the whole thing plays out like a dream dinner party conversation.
I can't recommend this DVD highly enough to anyone, just because it isn't pandering to the lowest common denominator doesn't mean it's snobbish or for "the few", it's just funny, warm and surprising. Try it, I guarantee you'll be hooked.
I hope that further series become available soon.
Short for Quite Interesting, this BBC quiz show (hosted by Stephen Fry) turns all conventional quiz rules on their heads. Instead of contestants, there is a panel of British celebrities ranging from barely known to familiar faces. Instead of scoring for correct answers, players score by making their answers interesting, even if they have nothing to do with the question. Instead of a closing round of general knowledge to give people a chance to catch up, there is a round of general ignorance, where if you think the answer to a question is obvious, you should prepare to be surprised and lose whatever lead you had.
The content is strong and adult (the stamp in the lower corner warns that nobody under the age of twelve should watch; Americans would probably keep anyone under the age of sixteen away. Expect swearing and the politically incorrect), so unless you have an open mind and a wicked sense of humour, you might want to give this one a miss. But if you enjoy hearing neat stories and bizarre answers about the world and everything in it, give this a look.
Starring a quintessential jewel of the nation in host Stephen Fry (A Little Bit of Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster, Kingdom, Blackadder) with his right hand man and resident 'dunce' Alan Davies (most well known outside of QI for his starring role in Jonathan Creek) the remainder of the panel is made of comedians of the current british comedy circuit.
The premise is simple - questions are posed - points are given for interesting answers around the question as well as correct answers. stating the obvious (incorrect) answer, will however incur a large penalty. This first series isn't as smooth and polished as some of the later series' - specially when settled into the alphabetical format, but has its own charm because of its slightly less polished presentation.
A rarity in a quiz show is that i can watch QI again and again - it doesn't bore me, and has the wonderful ability of cheering me up when i'm down. The fact that i learn things is a bonus!!! Long may QI reign!!
