"Amazing Sounds" is instantly memorable for the evil laugh in the bass line, but even without this it is an excellent song with haunting vocals and lyrics and incredibly complex and curious backing noise. Worthy of anyone's collection.
"Trans-Atlantic Drawl" could hardly be more different from the song it follows, but it is just as good, if not better. Instantly surprising thanks to the guitar/bass combo that Radiohead rarely employed at this point, Thom Yorke comes in with a typically different-to-the-last-song vocal line and makes this seem like a normal rock song! What? You'll be jumping around the room on the first listen, and then comes the awesome bit. I can't really describe it, but you'll know when it happens. It will blow you away, and then a guitar line the likes of which hasn't been heard since "Electioneering" takes the tune for a very cool little solo. Verse two follows the formula of verse one just with extra guitar, and just when you think you've got the song figured out... it goes away. The amazing bit builds up even further than before, and then it explodes a bit and suddenly the whole tune is replaced by a synthesiser, hauntingly drifting you to the end of the piece. Followed as it is by the words "do you see light at the end of the tunnel", I can't help thinking that this ending alludes to death. But anyway, half-baked analysis aside, you can probably tell by how much I've written about this song that I absolutely adore it.Read more ›
Is based on a dream by one of the menbers of the band and it blends perfectly with the song.
The second song "The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy" is interesting and in keeping with the dark mood of Pyramid song and "Trans-Atlantic Drawl" sounds like something out of The Bends.
as always 5 stars
