I knew both my girls would love this, as both of them love being read to, and they love animals.
“Animal Ark” is a well-known series, which was first launched 20 years ago; some parents could have actually read some of these books when they
In this book you’ll find two stories, the first is called “Cat Sitters” and the second is “Caturday!”
Both stories are really lovely, and each one has just six chapters.
I’m not going to say anting about the stories as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who wants to read them.
The author has done a great job with the stories and her characters have plenty of depth. This book has some lovely black and white illustrations.
Besides the two stories, at the back of the book you’ll find a sneak peak of another of another book from this series which is called “Doggy Drama”.
Directly after the sneak peek, you’ll find two pages with some animal advice from Sarah McGurk, a veterinary surgeon, they are:- Caring for your pet, When to go to a vet and Helping wildlife.
On the last page, you’re given the name of the website to do with Animal Ark, you’ll find names of other books in the series, can read extracts and you’ll find fun things to download.
This book has 192 pages and the given reading age for this book is 6 years and above, (it’s mentioned next to the bar code on the back of the book).
Both my girls loved the stories and the illustrations. My eldest, (6¾ yrs) loved reading this to her younger sister.
My girls are both looking forward to other books in series. In fact, my eldest has already written down which ones she’d like to read from both the past and present series, so I know what she’ll be doing during half tem. :-)
I can highly recommend this book. :-)
The 2 stories are linked by events that happen in 'Cat Sitters'.
In Cat Sitters, Amelia and her best friend Sam volunteer at the Animal Ark and they both love animals. Amelia and Sam have rescued 2 kittens and are taking care of them by ensuring they have necessary operations and that they have a happy home. Amelia adopts Star and Sam adopts Luna, but Luna is injured by an older cat who has become aggressive, so Luna is afraid. The story goes on to explain why the older cat is upset and how Amelia and Sam take care of Luna to ensure she is safe and happy again.
In Caturday, the story follows on from an idea the vet has in the first story, to hold an open day where they teach people about how to look after there cats. Amelia and Sam are on hand to help make the day a success.
This is a great book for confident young readers from around 7+, but can be read with younger children. It has a few drawn illustrations dotted throughout, which compliment the stories.
Overall a great addition to the series.
Animal Ark is two short stories focused around the Animal Ark Vet surgery. The chapters aren't too long, the writing big and the stories easy to follow. I have been reading a chapter each evening to my daughter and she's certainly very interested in what's going on.
This series of books are perfect for children who have a first pet or might be looking to get a first pet. There's a section at the back of the book all about animal advice and caring for your pet.
What I love about books like this are that they are getting my daughter interested in reading and the idea of reading at a young age which I am delighted about.
It has a few illustrations which add to the storylines.
Happy to recommend.
The stories about different animals in trouble are "dramatic", but small children will easily be able to deal with it - and obviously they all reach a happy ending.
Sweet and perfect for a good night story.
