Product description

Review

'JOYOUS. The concept is brilliant! It really made me laugh. I love the quickfire wit and bold characters. It is warm, witty, wildly imaginative and utterly original. A satirical delight!' Emma Jane Unsworth 'That rare thing, a warm-hearted satire. Witty and emotional, it has teeth AND a heart' David Quantick 'A genre busting tale that keeps you reading at a frantic clip. A novel of serious intent with a big, funny, generous heart. I loved it' Kate Hamer 'Though based around a striking and original, speculative central premise, Purple People is no one-trick pony: this is also a novel about family, relationships and human contact. A healthy, happy, slap of satirical Dettol for these septic and scary days' Jonathan Trigell --Jonathan Trigell

About the Author

Kate grew up in a small seaside town, and after spending her formative years writing stories - and being most strongly influenced by the unlikely combo of George Orwell, Victoria Wood and Smash Hits - went to university to study Writing and Publishing. She then spent over a decade working in film, mostly in New York (capers included being a casting gal on quite the cinematic smorgasbord: from Robert De Niro's The Good Shepherd and Paul Greengrass' United 93, to an assortment of romantic comedies, and Spiceworld, the Spice Girls movie). While in New York she also dabbled in stand up comedy. In 2011 she was part of the second Curtis Brown Creative novel-writing course, and recently a short story anthology written by that group, The Book of Unwritten Rules, was published. In addition to developing further novels, Kate is currently writing a sitcom series. A seaside lass once more, Kate believes her achievements to include resistance to owning a smart phone, and being told that she has a `troubling addiction to parentheses' (this is true. She blames Smash Hits).
