Wow! A totally different experience. You must keep the steamer upright and just go in up and down directions and it’s the steam that removes creases not ironing the item with the steamer. Very gently, and I mean gently pull the material as you steam it, your not pulling the creases out of the material as such but pulling it to let the steam get into the creases so they fall out. It took about 20 minutes to do the entire linen backdrop and without a crease in sight and no new ones appearing through having to fold it.
As I say this was my first experience, and other steamers may no be as good, but I’m sure there won’t be better at this price. It’s extremely efficient (when you read the instructions) and if you’re another photographer with linen backgrounds I’d certainly recommend it FOR LINEN as I can’t say how it would react to the man made fibre backdrops you often get in kits. As for me? I might read some instructions again in the future after such a positive experience, but there again...
It did finally do the job but was a bit of a learning curve. First I had to find a space with a hook to hang a hanger from with decent lighting and near a power socket. This is harder than one might expect (in my flat, anyway - might be easier in a hotel). Then it's merry hell trying to pull the fabric flat with one hand whilst using a level up-down motion with the steamer. I never really did manage this - I was trying to iron a fine cotton tunic with sleeves and it was quite hard to hold the sleeves out and avoid burning yourself with the steam at the same time. It's hard to pull fine cotton flat with one hand. It ran out of steam whilst I got the hang of it and I had to refill it.
In the end, I got it done and it looked fine - not as good as if it had been pressed with a steam-iron but fine. Next time, it'll be a fraction of the hassle and it's fine for a one-off that you need right now for a 'do'. Its reservoir is just about enough to do one tunic - I'm glad I didn't buy a smaller one.
The steamer itself is robust and easy to fill and use and its cord is a reasonable length which is helpful. It weighs a fraction of the weight of my travel steam iron so that's a big plus. Overall, glad I bought it.
I got this as I couldn't get the creases out of my new curtains with an iron. WOW!! 10 minutes and they are crease free. So, so pleased with this little gadget. It is small, but it did a pair of very creased 90" x 90" curtains in 2 fills, so much better than ironing. Highly recommend for curtains, wish I had bought it years ago
I was getting married in February, and my friend promised to bring my newly pressed wedding dress up to the hotel for me the night before the wedding, lying it down flat in the car to stop it from getting creased.
Unfortunately the dress had fallen to the bottom of the dry cleaning bag and lay there crumpled for 5 days!! It was in a dreadful state and this was the night before the wedding! No dry cleaners were open to be able to fix my dress. Luckily my friend had her Pursteam travel steamer (the little black steamer - Elite 850 watt garment and fabric steamer compact size) and steamed the dress to perfection so I could walk down the aisle crease free on my wedding day. I have bought the exact same steamer.
I am probably pursteam’s biggest fan. I am rating 5/5. I would give 6/5 if I could!!!!
