Product Description

Product Description

The Pub Prop is a British-designed and manufactured stroke of genius which has been saving the lives of guitars, banjoes, mandolins, ukuleles and violins for many years now, since its inventor, Brian Rathmill, made his first prototype out of a G-clamp and a piece of wood. The idea swiftly developed into the product we see today and has found its home in the traditional and folk music scene, where thousands of musicians worldwide trust its simple design to "look after" their instruments in situations where a regular floor stand would be impractical - in a crowded pub session, in a home recording studio, or anywhere else you can think of.

The Pub Prop can be fixed onto either a table or a rail due to its dual clamping system, and comes complete with adapters for use with narrow-necked instruments or violins.

Don't worry about losing any of these additional parts - everything can be stored in the smart carrying bag.

I've had a Pub Prop for some time, and, although it does the job of using a table as a guitar rest, I started looking at what others were using. I finally bought a Planet Waves Guitar Rest and have discovered that it does the job equally well, with a massive improvement in simplicity.
The Planet Waves Guitar rest could not be more simple - you lay it on the edge of a table and prop your guitar on it. That's it. The Pub Prop, however, has a screw threaded clamp to connect it to the table. That is fiddly to use and is particularly difficult on certain types of table that have edgings sticking downwards.
The Pub Prop has a little bar that can clip across the neck of the guitar for extra security. I stopped using that as the guitar was equally stable without it. I suppose it might be marginally helpful if someone bumped into the guitar or if there was an earthquake, but I've never wished that I'd spent the extra time securing and un-securing that clip.
The fact that the Planet Waves Guitar Rest is not fixed to the table means that it can be easily moved along a bit to make a bit more room for someone else. Between songs in a folk club, it feels like a major work of dismantling and reassemby to move a Pub Prop.
Having used both in action, now, I would recommend the Planet Waves Guitar Rest every time.

A strange product moulded out of a softish rubbery plastic. Works all right on a square edged table but won't reach in far if the edge is beveled. No hinge as such but the top opens by bending the rubber guitar holder.

Fixing it to a table is a bit fiddly - a quick hold/release cam would be far better than the fine-threaded screw.

Does the job though. I give it 5/10

I love the Pub Prop!
It attatches to anthing that has a horizontal surface so its not just for the session monkeys.
I work on ships and i use it to stop my mandolin falling on the deck and turning into firewood.
Suitable for fiddles, mandolins, banjos, guitars... pretty much any stringed instrument with a neck the size of a guitar or smaller. It also comes with rubber adaptors to fit (i.e one with a tighter curve for the fiddle, a flatter one for ukes etc)
it comes apart for easy storage in youre instrument case, and takes a few seconds to assembe and prop!
In summation, play an instrument like the ones above? yes? Buy this and worry no more about someone sitting on youre beloved noise making apparatus! Happy Propping people! :)

id give it five stars for concept but its poorly made. In common with many other people the cup on the end of the screw fell off and was left behind when I removed the prop at the end of the first evening. Almost all G clamps have this piece captive on the screw, so I don't see why this props manufacturer hasn't done likewise.

Extremely handy solution to a problem for us "sitting around a pub table" acoustic musicians. My only slight concern is the strength of the plastic screw thread that clamps the unit to a table. I've used it about ten times so far and I tend to be quite careful not to overtighten the clamp just in case. I make sure it is tight enough not to slip off the table but I wouldn't give it a lot of "heave-ho" if I were you! Notwithstanding that comment, I'd still recommend it as a neat solution.

I've been using a Pub Prop for years and I wouldn't be without it. Clips firmly to a table edge and holds your instrument securely. Saves having to carry a stand unless the venue has no tables. The original design was only suitable for large instruments (eg Guitar) but the new design also fits smaller instruments.

Does an excellent job in a tricky situation. A friend of mine bought one and showed it to me at our local on an Acoustic Evening. Used mine for the first time last night. Found it very useful between songs and when needing to go to the bar.

Amazing if you play open mic nights or other pub/hall gigs and need to keep your guitar safe whilst sitting at a table when space is limited. Small enough to keep in your guitar case. Why didn't anyone think of it earlier? Or maybe they did and I just hadn't heard of it. If you're reading this then you have already heard of it - so my advice is buy one!
