My Mind’s Eye - Ryker & Kat
In this book we meet Kat, a girl in her last year at the university who’s ready to make the best of this last hoorah as a student after suffering a traumatic experience at the very end of the previous year. Coming out of a bad relationship, she’s focusing on school, her new job at Pub Fiction and having fun, not looking for boy trouble. At her new job, she meets Ryker, a consummate player, bartender extraordinaire and brother to the pub’s owner. Needless to say, the attraction is immediate and these two are in for way more than they bargain for.
On the Rocks - Braunwyn & Levi
Levi is Pub Fiction’s proud owner, a man whose only mistress is his bar and who’s never been interested in a relationship until he meets his newest employee, Braunwyn. He knows she’s hiding things and he is willing to uncover each and every one of them. They share an intense attraction, but choose to be friends given the fact that she’s not ready for a relationship after what happened with her boyfriend and how he left her while she was 18 and pregnant with their daughter. After more than 4 years, she’s still dealing with feelings of guilt and thinks every step to reclaim her life is cheating on the late Shawn.
One Last Shot - Claire and Matt
We met the vivacious, carefree Claire in MME and she’s a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, she also has baggage and, when she found herself falling in love, she decided packing up and moving away after finishing her education was the right thing to do. Two years later, she moves back home and Matt is still waiting for the opportunity to claim the love he knows she feels for him, but Claire’s defenses may be harder to conquer than they all expect.
The Pub Fiction series is about women dealing with different issues: PTSD, suicide and grief. I have to say, this is not my usual kind of read and I chose to review these books because I’d read Call Me and I really enjoyed the story, the author’s writing style and the way she incorporates and deals with the social issues and their implications.
Unfortunately, I didn’t feel the same way with these stories and, in my opinion, it’s because the Pub Fiction books are earlier works and lack the polish of the more recent book.
On the plus side, I have to say I do admire the way the author brings these issues into the story, the trauma these women have and how the support of family, friends and loved ones can make a difference in a life. There are also fun moments, unbreakable friendships and the second book is laced with the purest love one can find in the relationship that develops between big bad boy Levi and sweet little Emme. The premise of the books is a good one and these are stories people can definitely relate to, unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed on the slow pace and redundancy, especially in the first book.

Ryker is the typical playboy. He has a rule one night only. The best way to meet woman for Ryker is working at his older brothers bar. He goes to college, works hard, and plays harder. Ryker doesn't believe in fate, luck, or karma. He makes his own rules and his own way in life. He has his own plan for his life but when Kat moved to town she threw him off his game. Kat is the girl next door. She is very sensible and just fine with how her life is. She knows she should move past what happened but it can be difficult especially when you think about what might of happened. Her best friend on the other hand tries to get her to loosen up. Working at a bar called Pub Fiction while taking classes just might help her out. She know Ryker is a play boy, she knows it, everyone knows it. As she gets to know him she finds herself needing him, but she knows Ryker will only bring her pain.
Ryker likes the chase and Kat finds out she likes being chased.
Okay let me start out by saying that Gillian Jones is amazing. Not only her writing style but also the way she describes everything. From the characters, to their style of dress, to the description of the Pub. It's the perfect setting for a movie in your mind.
Now back to Kat and Ryker. Kat tries to move past what happened, and i really can't blame her. I would find it difficult to, i can totally see why what might have happened always plays in her mind. I wanted to lock her in an attic because i didn't want to see her hurt. As she grew throughout the book i loved her even more. She actually started to get over what happened. She slowly became the person she was before. Now Ryker on the other hand started on my bad side. I knew he would hurt my Kat and i wanted him to just move on from her. But as the book started to go one he grew up and grew on me. Watching him try to stay away from Kat was amazing. The cat and mouse game they played only anticipated them getting together. I couldn't put this book down. I wanted to see what would happen. I cried, i laughed, i got feelings, and i wanted to throw my kindle.
This book is On the Rocks (Pub Fiction Book 2) by Gillian Jones
You don't necessarily have to read My Mind's Eye to understand what's going on but it would be great if you did. You do catch glimpses of Levi so it might help.
Braunwyn or Braun to everyone lost the love of her life 4 years ago. Years of rumors and looks in her hometown almost broke her, but she had a child that helped ease everything. Braun and her daughter were enough for each other, until she meet him. He wanted to piece her back together, if only she knew how to let him. He showed her what it's like to move on from her past to her future.
Everything changed for Levi when Braun came into his Pub looking for a job. Levi was drawn to her her immediately. He saw the dueling emotions of happiness and sorrow battling it out in her. Levi needed to help her, he wanted to fix her broken soul.
Gillian Jones how could you. You tore my heart open. I will forgive you though because you put it back together. Again the way she writes is just downright amazing. I loved everything about it. The covers for this series are amazing. But i do have to say this is my favorite one.
Braun and Levi are amazing together. He knows she is broken and takes it at her pace. He knows she is broken but that doesn't stop him from seeing just how beautiful she is. I understand Braun’s need to take it slow, but darn is she isn't stubborn. Her need to shut herself off because of her past kind of irritates me. She has this successful sexy man willing to piece her back together she should jump on that. But i understand her need to slow things down especially because she has to think about her daughter. I do love that she doesn't let her depression get the best of her. They both soon realize that even though they feel like all is lost they still have hope. I loved how Levi not only wanted Braun but he also wanted his daughter as his own. Reading about them interacting was enough to make my heart melt. Their connection is so darn cute. I love this part in books when the man shows so much attention to the child. My heart swooned. It warmed up even more as Braun slowly starts to put herself together with the love and affection that Levi Shows her. I felt so many emotions reading this book. I couldn't put it down. It hooked me from the beginning. I ignored everything just to finish this book.
This book is One Last Shot (Pub Fiction Book 3) by Gillian Jones
This book is about Claire. She is Kats best friend and you know Kat from My Minds Eye. All the books in this series are kind of intertwined so you may want to read the others if you haven't already. This story picks up a few years down the road from the other Pub stories.
Claire is the female version of a player. Its called a boyslayer. I learned that from the book by the way. She doesn't do long term relationships or to commit to anything especially what leads to the proverbial two point five kids. She is not willing to let herself get hurt by losing someone she loves. Kat is the only one who knows where Claire up and left. Not even Matt the man she was dating before she left. She never thought she would get feelings after she lost her parents, but Matt brought out the feelings of a future. It caused her fight or flight instincts to kick in.
Matt was devastated when Claire left. He saw their future together and always help out hope that she would come back. If only she would so he could show her that they belong together. Even though she wasn't around Matt did live his life but he kept tags on Claire always. When he finally found out she was coming back he put his plan in motion to win her back. But Claire wouldn't be Claire if she made it easy on him.
Again Gillian Jones with the ripping my heart out lady. This series is so refreshing and unique. I loved that i wouldn't know what i was going to feel as soon as i turned the page. I have to say Claire and Matt are my favorite couple. I love them all equally but i love these two just a little bit more. And all the nicknames each couple has for each other is sa darn cute.
I love this story so much because you get to see that Claire isn't always the fun loving easy going woman. She has a past and issues she has to work out. And she does just that. Matt doesn't push but he also doesn't give up on her till she tells him to. Not only have they grown but their development is something that i will never get tired of reading. I loved how even though Matt acts like he is giving up but he doesn't he just slowly bys his time till Claire is ready to open up to him. Their story is heart wrenching and those sex scenes are amazing. They are full of love but still so dirty. It takes guts for Claire to admit that she needs Matt. Also that she may need help because of what happened in her past. This book i couldn't put it down even when i wanted to strangle Claire for hurting my Matt. The cat and mouse game they played with each wasnt one of hate or trying to get the other one jealous. It was more of a catch me and keep me if you can. Watching them both grow and finally realize that no one else can compare is so amazing. Trust me when i say this book in the series is full of so many emotions that you feel a deep connection with these two.
