As with Psychic Surveys 1 and 2 (The Haunting of Highdown Hall and Rise to Me) 44 Gilmore Street is well written, well researched contemporary fiction that kept me reading into the small hours...even if it did trigger a nightmare or two. Brilliant stuff, highly recommended.
The team are called in to rid an old house of its otherworldly occupant; a belligerent and violent misogynist.
Then Ellie, a young woman who appears to be haunted by a past life, comes to seek Ruby’s help. Ruby is reluctant but her colleague Ness encourages her to try and help.
In this third compelling Psychic Surveys case Ruby and her team are pushed to their limits and unwelcome press attention doesn’t help matters. Will they get a breakthrough and find out who is really haunting 44 Gilmore Street and what connection, if any, does the spirit have with Ellie?
Once again Shani Struthers deals brilliantly with supernatural issues and the challenges of spirit rescue. Her prose is fluid and the characters grow on me more with each new book. She also deals effectively and sensitively with the issue of natural scepticism, something I can relate to being a psychic medium myself.
This book is not meant to be read as a standalone, fortunately the whole Psychic Surveys series is well worth a look and will provide greater understanding of the characters and the events that have gone before.
I really can’t wait for the next instalment.
Ruby is an interesting character, at times quite unlikeable, whiny and lacking in emotional intelligence and maturity, and yet she works and feels quite real. The others are all also developing as individuals, as the series develops and in this one we find out a bit more about Ness in particular. I am looking forward to the next one.
A good story
Psychic Surveys – specialists in domestic spiritual clearance – have never been busier. Although exhausted, Ruby is pleased. Her track record as well as her down-to-earth, no-nonsense approach inspires faith in the haunted, who willingly call on her high street consultancy when the supernatural takes hold.
But that’s all about to change.
Two cases prove trying: 44 Gilmore Street, home to a particularly violent spirit, and the reincarnation case of Elisha Grey. When Gilmore Street attracts press attention, matters quickly deteriorate. Dubbed the ‘New Enfield’, the ‘Ghost of Gilmore Street’ inflames public imagination, but as Ruby and the team fail repeatedly to evict the entity, faith in them wavers.
This was another great read from shani. She never fails to amaze me I love her books. 44 Gilmor continues with Ness and ruby and Corrina. All special in their own way. They don't stop either til they put spirit to rest. I loved how they all pulled together to help. Wow what an ending. Can't wait for next part. I would highly recommend this book and give it 5* although I would give more if I could. thanks to netgalley and the author for the arc.
