The book doesn’t disappoint- Well presented, lovely photos of every dish, a modern feel and a good variety of recipes. I think I’ll try most of the dishes.
I love her honest, relaxed narrative. All recipes seem achievable, so can't wait to try them out on family and friends.
I was a little concerned it was going to be recipes that need fancy ingredients you don’t have to hand, like spices you buy for one recipe then forget about for the next 4 years, but so far most things are pantry staples and the few bits I’ve had to buy aren’t costly.
There’s a really good mix of simple everyday meals and fancier meals.
So far my favourite is the aubergine pasta and the tomato and summer herbs gnocchi.
There’s a good balance of vegetarian and meat based dishes, both interchangeable.
Can’t recommed this book enough.
Revved up by the Great British Bake Off, Prue has produced a collection of favourites reflecting a lifetime in food. Recipes range from favourites from a South African childhood such as bobotie, Lebanese recipes from her sister-in-law like labne, through to family favourites such as slow cooked brisket. She also borrows ideas from, and credits, other cooks e.g Jamie Oliver's green linguine with kale. The recipes are well, very good, and I've earmarked a raft of them to try.
The book begins with 'Neat Tricks and Tips' and there is also a wealth of practical advice interspersed throughout the recipes.
Recipes are organised into Simple Favourites, Meat Free, Feasts and Puds. The feasts are typically dishes to be enjoyed with family and good friends, moving from appetisers and starters to mains. Examples include the homely, such as roast pork with crackling, through to the more exotic burrata with kumquats, coriander and lavender. There is a photo of each finished dish.
Kindle navigation is OK, with a good linked index, but it would be great to have lists of recipes.
It is full of delicious recipes with great photography. I liked the fact there is a photo for each recipe.
The recipes are simple and easy to follow. Out of the 3 I have made so far they have worked every time.
Love it. I will be buying more as presents.
