A really enjoyable read, with some hot steamy scenes and grewsome murders combined to make an exciting and gripping read
For example, the fact that the members of the team ignore each other specificities sound strange to me, it's supposed to be done so that if one is captured he or she can't reveal anything....bof that case seems less possible than a member of the team needing help because of his or her specific talent. Also for me if you put your life in danger being protected by your partners is essential and that's not possible if there isn't a real trust.
However the story was written so that i could forget that point and focus on the investigation and story itself...which revealed others problems for me. First, the culprit was too easy, it was really obvious so i was annoyed that professional like them didn't connect the dots sooner. The investigation was too slow in that domain, now if we take into account that Erica does feel what the victims feel i guess we can understand her mind being slower to realize things after that.
Nevertheless, Erica disappointed me...yes she had a difficult life and her " gift" isn't an easy one but for me it was even more reason to act differently. She is attracted to Trent, that's great, he is her mate , she doesn't know it etc etc all that oki but jumping to bed with him when she doesn't trust him...a big NO for me. For me trust must come first and she doubt him and his reasons nearly until the end so just jumping to bed with him and not only once sounded wrong to me. The fact that Trent didn't hesitate to have adventures before fin ding is mate was also disturbing as i do prefer my wolf loyal and patient ( so yes i would have preferred he waited THE one, instead of enjoying his life until he did)
I know it seems to be a lot of negative point and in a sense it is but it's only about personal preference. Put aside it's a good story and i had a good time reading it. It does have a lot of steamy parts if you love those , if you don't you can skip most of them and still enjoy the story a lot.
This first book focuses on Erica and Trent, Erica is an empath she touches things even pictures of dead people and can live their final moments, again, and again, and again, but it drains her, usually Brock her boss is there to protect her but he can't be this case and Trent is getting awfully close to discovering what she actually does, Erica is not sure she can deal with it as she has longed for him, but it seems so has every other woman that has met him. Erica is such a strong character but even the strongest need someone and Trent would love to be that someone for Erica.
Trent knew the moment his wolf and he met Erica that she was his mate but for just as long she has been running. Bodies are starting to pile up but is he finally going to get his chance to be with the one person who completes him.
I love paranormal books and this is interesting as it has all types of paras in it and their particular skills will be revealed over the course of the series so can't wait for further books to learn more about the Federal Paranormal Unit.
Wolf Protector by Milly Taiden contained everything I love in a book.
Murder, an FBI investigation, The Supernatural, oh and the romance gets
hot and heavy!
A case of missing girls who start turning up dead is investigated by a team
of FBI agents with unique paranormal powers. The main characters,
agents Trent & Erica, are very likeable and I quickly began to care about
them and be drawn into their relationship. The other members of the team
are well written and although they don’t all have a major part to play in this
book, their characters are fleshed out. I’m hoping to read more about each
of them as the series progresses.
My only minor gripe was how long it took the team to figure out who the
killer was although I think it becomes obvious to the reader pretty early on.
Apart from that, I couldn’t fault this book.
Secondary to the murder case, the major storyline is the development of
the relationship between Trent & Erica. This is amazingly well written, the
love scenes are some of the sexiest I’ve ever read but the pace of their
romance is believable.
A great storyline and hot, hot romance! This is a thoroughly good read and
I will definitely be looking for more from Milly Taiden.
