The texture is somewhere between a shave cream and a hard soap and for me the end result of lathering is likewise inbetween; creamier and thicker than a soap but slicker than most creams. After a good shave you want good skincare and Proraso delivers here as well.
Finally the plastic bowl, while probably not that great for lathering closes tightly and is useful for traveling.
For me though the soap really came into its own when combined with the Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream 100ml and the Proraso after shave lotion. The products all work amazingly together to give a close, comfortable shave with the skin calming of the menthol and eucalyptus.
Overall it gives a great shave for not that much money. If you don't like menthol then avoid but otherwise give it a go and I'm sure you'll soon be sucked in to trying out the other Proraso products as well.
The cream has a nice menthol and eucalyptus scent and it is blissssss to pat down a freshly shaven face, you get such a lovely cool feel to your skin.
In the past I have tried the Taylor of old bond street one, that was very good but I prefer this Proraso in terms of fragrance and ease to lather (this seems softer). I have also used the Neals Yard one which was absolutely awful despite the outrageous price.
It seems like this will last a very long time, I have probably done 20 shaves with this now and I would say I have used maybe 10% of the soap at the most.
I very rarely get nicks, and it smells and feels great afterwards. I look forward to shaving again.
I will probably just try the sandalwood version next time to mix things up.
It was promptly delivered and I tried it. It's as hard as bar soap and took a lot of swirling with the shaving brush to get any lather at all, and what I did get on my face wasn't enough. I tried harder the next day, rubbed longer, worked up quite a lather in the Prosaro bowl, but less than it seemed should be there on my face.
I'll be going back to Taylor's and hang the expense. Three tubs of Taylors lasts me more than a year.
It's a sort of cross between a soap and a cream, I like the fragrance, and actually wouldn't mind a bit more zing.
In really like this and arko soaps compared with the posh versions. It lathers ok and shaves really nicely
Have used wilkinson sword and much more expensive crabtree and evelyn soaps before... the expensive sandalwood one. That did smell nice but did not lather as well as this... it is very creamy, lathers easily for a good shave. It also seems to be a longer lasting lather as well... certainly more than my next favourite the crabtree and evelyn, creamier too.
