This is a very good book: it is clearly written, well-structured and easy to use. Property Tycoon is both an excellent overview and a guide to property investment. If you are interested in starting out in property this is an excellent starting place full of sound advice and information. It doesn’t make wild promises that you can be property tycoon overnight or without hard work and it is the better for that.
The author is an experienced, hands-on property investor who has worked his way up from scratch, so he knows what he is talking about and this is a real strength. He illustrates tricky points about finance, expansion or bad decisions with personal examples which make the points easier to understand and even entertaining. He also is able to emphasise details which a novice investor may overlook such as the importance of building a team around you or a reminder never to throw out paperwork as HMRC can ask to see 6 years of past accounts and will take a dim view if you’ve chucked it.
There is a lot of information here and it is well presented and explained in layman’s terms. The tables are clear and helpful, the analysis of finance, tax, good and bad debt are especially good with clear formulas given to help work out the best investment. There are neat lists to remind you what to ask everyone from tradesmen and tenants to agents, lawyers, accountants and developers.
Although a book like this can date, the author is aware of this and whenever necessary gives a link to sites which will provide current information on anything from legislation to house prices to tax.
A few more pluses which set the book apart from so many other guides. At no point does the author shout at readers with CAPITAL LETTERS. Nor does he overdo the exclamation mark!! And the writing is free from management speak – this man never ‘cascades’ when he can simply tell. Recommended

The title of this book is very misleading...it should be called How to Start investing in property as it is written for a complete novice. I already have a small portfolio and was hoping to read some tried and tested tricks and secrets of the trade to help me expand my portfolio wisely but unfortunately I could flick through this book in 10 minutes as the contents were aimed at a complete beginner. Perhaps the author could write another book for those who are already dabbling in the business.

I have been thinking of investing in property for a number of years now and this book has helped me to feel confident enough about the issues involved to spur me to take the plunge! It is well written, broken down into digestible chunks and the straightforward language helps a beginner to really get the feel of what is involved. I particularly like the examples which help me to visualise what the various choices mean. If you are considering property investment yourself, I would highly recommend this book as it covers all the areas involved and outlines the many pitfalls and difficulties you may encounter with good, practical advice about how to avoid them.

I think too often reviewers forget the price of what they are paying for. In my view if you can pick up 2-3 very useful tips, these could save you some big money so it has to be worth it. This book falls into that category. It is not a weighty tome or a property bible but for anyone interested in investing in property it has some useful tips. He has clearly owned dozens of properties in his time so he obviously knows a thing or two. Yes, some is common sense but we all occasionally need to have a message reiterated. Plus, I actually like his writing style. A few nice anecdotes and no awful grammar or spelling errors.

I have read a number of property investment books over the years...they good ones are all very much the same I feel. It didn't take long to read and touches on a few different topics. I'm getting closer each year to starting my portfolio but at the end of the day, you need some capital (typically 25% for buy to let).
The book has kept me motivated that I'm on the right path with my current plans.

If you're looking to find out how to become a property tycoon this is a great place to start. Even if you have been working in the industry for years this book still has something for everyone. You can tell that the author has real world experience in this field.

I imagine it must be incredibly difficult to write a book that appeals to all audiences but it does appear to me that this is an over-simplistic view of investing in property. I imagine that anyone who requires such a simplified version of investing in property may not be entirely suited to the industry. But that's just my opinion.

The book is well written, engaging and easily understood. The author clearly knows what he's talking about and has done a good job of covering the basics. I imagine he struggled with what to include and could have written a book ten times as long and still only scratched the surface of this industry. No book can replace experience but it can guide one on the way, and that's what this book does.

Firstly, prior to reading this book I had very little knowledge of property investment - I am a University Student looking to buy my first property within the next few years.

I managed to read this book within a few hours, I feel that I have built up a solid foundation of knowledge.

Steps include: Knowing Your Finances, Building Your Team, Managing Your Portfolio, Developing Your Portfolio, Buying, etc

This book was published in early 2014 (therefore most of the content/examples are relevant however there may be some minor changes to TAX brackets, etc) - The author does a great job at referencing other books/websites that are important to keep yourself up to date with on topics such as regulations/tax brackets e.g. author references a book that is updated annually on how to minimise the amount of TAX you pay.

I will read this book again, I still need to get my head around certain topics e.g. Understanding some terms within the Finance section

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone new to the topic and also as a useful reference guide for the future
