A worthy sequel to 1983's Project A. This time Jackie is called to investigate the corrupt police force and flush out the perpetrators. This would be easy if he wasn't being chased by the surviving pirates from the last adventure, out for revenge. Although it has slightly less action than the first it is a better movie all round. Jackie performs one of his most reckless stunts in the final climactic sequence and also has a hilarious scene involving red hot chili peppers. Nobody working in film today knows how to truly entertain audiences better than Jackie. If you like frantic action, excellent martial artistry, and great comedy then you'll love this!

The absence of Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao in this 1987 sequel to 1983's Project A was bound to affect the film. However this film still has plenty of entertaining fight scenes, comedy and stunts. The plot is muddled and can get confusing but in a Chan film all that matters is that it has plenty of the trademark slapstick action and breathtaking stuntwork.

After fighting pirates in Project A, this time Jackie's character Dragon Ma has to contend with revolutionaries Rosamund Kwan and Maggie Cheung, corruption in the police force and surviving pirates from the first film who want to avenge their pirate boss's death.

Noteworthy highlights include a running chase scene where Chan and a police officer's hands are handcuffed together as they try to escape pirates and a lengthy comedy scene where Chan and various characters are hiding in Maggie Cheung's house not aware of each other. The climatic stunts pay homage to Buster Keaton's silent films which Jackie Chan is a huge fan of.

Although Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao's presence would have made it even better than the first film, there is plenty to like here and it is one of his best sequels along with Police Story 2.

HASH(0x820a066c) out of 5 stars Better than I expected... the DVD, that is... 24 May 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
Alright... I'm keeping myself anonymous as I've been against Dimension Films' treatment of pretty much all Hong Kong imports, yet this release wasn't as bad... First off, I'm not sure if the print was cut at all, but at least the run time was over 100 min. Yes, this version has a new dub created by Dimension, HOWEVER, it has retained the original Hong Kong score. I don't believe Dimension has ever done this. The only thing close to this was the opposite with "Iron Monkey" in which the Cantonese track had been retained, but the music had changed. Also, the score was blasting in 5.1 surround sound, no less. And even the original sound effects were kept and with very good bass coming from the subwoofer. As for the picture, it looked almost like a brand new film. It might not've hit the standards of the Region 2 company "Hong Kong Legends", but was still highly impressive. As for extras... this is where it falls flat on its face... NOTHING! Also, I had feared that Dimension would chop out the outtakes since Jackie is seen singing in Cantonese in the original version, yet it was left in! Unfortunately, Dimension was too lazy to get subtitles for it. Well, it looks like Dimension may be getting closer to getting things right... but not until they release a Hong Kong film on DVD UNCUT and with BOTH English and Cantonese/Mandarin audio tracks. If Disney/Miramax, can take Japanese anime films ("Spirited Away", "Castle in the Sky", etc.) and give them high-class two disc releases, then why not Hong Kong live action films? They'd sell better that way as well. All we can do is wait... but it's getting harder and harder to hold my breath. As for this DVD... if you can find it for a decent price or you have a gift card and can't find anything else, it's actually worth the purchase. But, if you want original language over video quality, I guess you'll have to find the Mega Star Hong Kong DVD... either way, IT'S UP TO YOU!!

HASH(0x821f0360) out of 5 stars maybe Chan's best 11 Sept. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Project A II is DEFINITELY one of Chan's best films. If anyone tells you different, then they are LYING to you. The story is good(Chan and a few honest cops taking on corruption from everywhwere). The characters are likable(I would've liked to see Dragon Ma's cop friends play a bigger role though). The set pieces and direction is wonderful(nice pacing with no real slow moments). The humor is well done(not over-the-top as Chan can be sometimes). As for the action, 3 major scenes full of inventive choreography, fast & frenetic kung-fu, and stunts for your pleasure(including a finale that seems to go on forever-which is a good thing in this case). That's not including minor fight scenes or other memorable comedic scenes like the scene involving lots of people "hiding" in Maggie Cheung's residence. Overall, a must buy, must see, must own, must have...period.

HASH(0x820a04b0) out of 5 stars Chan Does it Again 14 Jan. 2000
By S Moore - Published on Amazon.com
Well, Jackie does it again! What an excellent movie, however, it isn't as good as Project A, which is my all-time favorite movie. Having the three brothers (Jackie, Sammo and Yuen Biao) together is always a thrill, and even though Project A 2 doesn't have Sammo and Biao, it is an excellent movie with plenty of excitment and, once again, Chan's trademark stunt work. It's a great movie and I would recommend it to anyone, Chan Fan or not!

HASH(0x820a07d4) out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant 18 Aug. 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
I thought this movie was great, and I was lucky enough to find the subtitled version so no cheesy voices, although, the subtitles seem a bit behind the action. For instance, Jackie will say something, and the words will appear about a second later! But this does little to make this amazing movie be any less fantastic. The stuntwork and fighting are beutiful, this is definately one of Jackies finest acheivments, buy it now!!!
