This is a fantastic book for anyone who is learning to play guitar. It covers different aspects of guitar into one brilliant lesson by lesson format. It is full of wonderful illustrations to keep the reader interested and a book anyone must have if learning, as it covers both chords and notes from scratch. I found it easy to use and understand as well as a pleasure to read. A must for all young guitarists!

I've used this book a number of times with young beginners. The system and style of the book is correctly designed to provide beginners the correct amount of technique and material to keep them enagaged during the first year or so of learning. Book 2 develops the guitar technique and increases the range whilst still focussing on the notes within the first 4 frets. Chords and learning to read notation are both covered.

I bought this book for my half brother, as he wanted to learn to play the guitar.
Im not available to teach him, but my step mum plays the guitar, so i thought she would be able to teach him.
It turns out i was right!
Having only glanced at the book, i bought it for my younger students and have been thoroughly impressed!
The book covers all of the basics, from how to hold the guitar correctly, to single notes, and a few chords.
The book is colourful and easy to follow, and is designed with the child in mind, but places a strong emphasis on being taught by an experienced guitar tutor. (which is what I am)

The songs are well thought out, (mostly nursery rhymes, Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had A Little Lamb etc)
and the backing tracks are expertly recorded, but are fun to play and would be enjoyable listening for a child in their own right!

This book also takes away the fear of reading music, which a lot of older players have.
In short, a good habit to break at a young age.
There are two more books in the series, which i intend to buy.

I would highly recommend this book to any parent who has recently bought their child a guitar and if you live in Kent, i'd be happy to teach them!

The book is very clear and the illustrations are really good. The only criticism I would have is that the music moves too fast on the DVD for my 5 year old to follow. I guess with more practice she will get better. I think it should have come with something a bit slower for complete beginners, but she loves it. It has a DVD and a CD.

This book would be better if it had the same landscape layout of the paper back book. In portrait mode, the music staves are much small, plus the title and song are often on next door pages.

On the upside, the book progresses at a steady pace, not rushing on too fast.

An excellent beginners book for young people or any age. It is beautifully illustrated and easy to understand. The student is taught both melodies and simple tunes straight away and of course if the student is ready you can teach staff notation from the start. It lays a good foundation and it does not look like one of those tutor books you'll finish! You also have excellent supporting multimedia.Highly recommended ! Really good starter book for children - moves at an appropriate pace and includes tunes that they will recognise. The print is large and easy to read, and the illustrations are fun. I use all three books in the series for my students. The music on the CD is quite fast, though, so they struggle to play along.
