This book complements a similar title by the same author - Microsoft Silverlight Edition: Programming for Windows Phone 7 - which is devoted to Silverlight technology upon which Windows Phone is built. This title on the other hand is devoted to the other important aspect of Windows Phone programming - the XNA (Xbox New Architecture) programming for Windows Phone games development. Interestingly, there exists a book by the title Programming Windows Phone 7 (ISBN: 978-0-7356-4335-2) that incorporates both the Silverlight book and this XNA book and available as a free download from Microsoft (surprisingly not available in print form here on Amazon).

Here is a relevant excerpt from the Introduction section of that book:

"... Yes, Programming Windows Phone 7 is truly a free download, but for those readers who still love paper--as I certainly do--this book will also be available (for sale) divided into two fully-indexed print editions: Microsoft Silverlight Programming for Windows Phone 7 and Microsoft XNA Framework Programming for Windows Phone 7".

Like the Silverlight book, this book also does a gentle introduction to its title (i.e., XNA programming for Windows Phone). Part I (in 6 chapters) deals with the Basics, while Part II (again in 6 chapters) focuses on XNA programming.

There are more advanced books with more detailed approach of the XNA topic but this book makes a good choice for beginners and intermediate programmers.

Quite complete, thorough and an exhaustive, if necessary read for device programmers, especially if coming from the IOS school of thought- where things are done a little differently. To do the examples in this book you will need a Windows 7 system higher than Starter Edition...
