4.0 out of 5 stars Great Overview, Thin on Some Details 14 July 2011
By R.A. Pomeroy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
PROS: This is a good overall book for those who are new to Windows CE 6.0, and who want to write for Windows CE. It is expected that the reader knows C/C++, and to some extent about Windows programming specifically, but Boling does a good job of not assuming the reader knows much about operating systems.

A variety of topics are discussed, including writing applications, dealing with user input (mice, keyboards), memory management, processes and threads in CE, Windows Registry, networking, etc.

CONS: Similar to other reviewers, certain sections leave quite a bit to be desired, such as the device driver section.

OVERALL: This book provides a good overview, but if you are serious about programming in Windows CE, you are going to need other resources as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally ... excellent reference for native code developers 14 Aug. 2010
By Nomad - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Extremely useful for C programmers with at least a little experience with Windows programming (event-based GUI programming at any rate). Written for native code (C, C++) programmers. Covers common controls, networking, device-to-device communication, multithreading, the registry, device driver programming ... fairly comprehensive list of topics. Does not cover direct X, audio, telephony. Up to date. Lots of complete code listings in the book. Downloadable resources from Microsoft Press website are excellent, more than just the source code for the examples in the book -- includes CE SDK for Visual Studio and an emulator. Highly recommended introduction to Win Mobile programming and exactly what I was looking for.
5.0 out of 5 stars The standard for Windows CE programming 16 Jun. 2013
By M. Miller - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I've had several editions of this book, and it just keeps getting better. As an introductory guide, this is simple and clear. Boling has kept up with the new features in subsequent Windows Mobile versions, and the examples are very clear. Of all the CE books I've used, this is the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful reference 14 July 2010
By André Lehmann - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book fulfils almost everything I was expecting.
It covers a broad scope of programming tasks for Windows CE.
I would recommend it.

Missing: some sort of media or link for source code samples.
