This was such a refreshing read, a romantic tender novel penned by a male author.
This was a revelation, that pulled me in very quickly, as I read this over two days.
Kelly is an enterprising, hardworking shop owner, who is faced with the reality that, you should never judge a book by it's cover.
She gets a bumpy ride as revelations reveal that all is not as it seems to be in her home town of Cedar Grove.
An enchanting contemporary romance story.

I came across Evan Asher on Twitter, where his teasers about The Profiteer piqued my interest and I here I am sharing my views after reading the book.

Kelly lived in Cedar Grove, a very small closed community where she ran her own shop. Curtis has been her boyfriend for six years, since she met him when she was seventeen. Curtis ran his own business too and when they received news that Crawford Hudson, a very rich and well known business man was planning to build a factory in their well preserved community, panic set in about the residents' welfare. Curtis became very anxious and worried that the small businesses, including his will be lost to the Hudsons.

Crawford's son Luke, who himself didn't have such a good reputation came to evaluate the viability of setting up business in Cedar Grove. He was attracted to Kelly from the first time he set eyes on her and so was Kelly, only she didn't know who he was as he didn't look and dress like the typical high powered business man but he had the looks that most girls dream about.

From then on, the twists and turns made for compulsive reading. Curtis for one was not who Kelly had always thought he was. If anything, he was totally the opposite. Luke and Kelly gave in to their attraction for each other, knowing that it would be only a temporary fling, until they discovered that their feelings ran deeper than they thought but neither of them would admit to their true feelings. Their time together was full of love and passion but Kelly didn't believe that Luke would settle with someone like her and Luke liked to keep his freedom. Will they overcome these barriers?

This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster and I would recommend this beautiful romantic story to those who like to read a good romance. I will definitely look out for other books by this author.

The profiteer is a sweet and sexy romance centered around the small town of Cedar Grove. The author, Evan Asher, does a wonderful job of creating a vivid description of Cedar Grove whilst also allowing the reader to use their imagination. The two main characters are believable, Asher portrays their difficult yet budding relationship well and I found myself really rooting for them. The plot ambles along at a good pace and I found it a bit of a page turner - I read it on one night. The romantic scenes are written beautifully - they are sweet and sexy and avoid using language that some readers may find uncomfortable. This is a great feel-good light read and I highly recommend it. I am glad that I bought it and will certainly explore more of Asher's work.

I probably wouldn't have downloaded this book if it wasn't for the fact that I came across Evan Esher on twitter so was curious enough to give the book a go as it's a romance having been written by a male author :)

Although the story is simple and relatively straightforward with an outcome that was inevitable, it was a really pleasant read. Nothing too heavy and easy on the brain, ideal after a long hard day at work. The author has a lovely writing style which I found really appealing and kept me turning the pages. The book itself can be read in one sitting and that is exactly what I did.

The story is about the threat and uncertainty a small community feels as a result of a big corporation setting up a store in town. The fear is that the small local businesses who are already struggling will go out of business or that good employees will want to leave to work for the corporation. The people of Cedar Grove are split on whether its a good thing or bad dependent on how it impacts them personally. The person who is charged with bringing about this change is Luke Hudson and this results in him clashing with the locals including Kelly and her rather self absorbed boyfriend Curtis. Despite being at opposite ends of a spectrum, Luke and Kelly feel an instant and intense attraction despite their differing views on what is good for the town. Luke really does turn Kelly's life upside down. As for Curtis it's clear he was using Kelly for his own selfish emotional needs and it doesn't take Kelly long to open her eyes and see the truth of what he really is.

The question is what happens to Kelly and Luke. Luke wants to maintain his freedom and just have a brief fling. Does Kelly give into this and have her heart broken or does she refuse, to protect herself?

I am a fantasy fan so when I hit the 'buy' button for The Profiteer, I did so with a dubious expression. What I found was a surprisingly tender love story with engaging characters. I couldn't put it down and even though I guessed the ending, it still filled me with a fuzzy, warm feeling - you may have converted this fantasy reader into a bit of a romantic, thank you.
