What is high blood pressure?

The heart is a small but very powerful pump that beats steadily. The pressure created by the heart to pump the blood through the blood vessels is called blood pressure. When the heart muscle contracts the blood surges through the arteries - this is when the systolic (upper) blood pressure value occurs. The diastolic (lower) value is the resting pressure before the heart contracts again. Home blood pressure readings should ideally be below 140/85mmHG.

Why choose an Omron blood pressure monitor?

About 12 milion people in the UK have high blood pressure. Daily blood pressure monitoring can help you find out, track and prevent this.

Every Omron blood pressure monitor is tested for accuracy against the clinical guidelines for measuring blood pressure that are specified by the european Society of Hypertension. A clinically validated monitor means that it has undergone tests conducted by independent doctors according to a predetermined protocol, which includes ensuring the accuracy of the measurements (algorithm) of the blood pressure monitors.

How to use and Omron blood pressure monitor

Omron's ProLogic allows you to measure your blood pressure with ease and accuracy in the comfort of your own home in just a few steps. After positioning yourself and the cuff, it's simply a matter of turning the machine on, pressing start, and then recording the measurement.

This is an excellent product, allowing "the patient" to monitor their blood pressure at home, when convenient. Doctors have long been aware of the effect that visiting a medical professional to have blood pressure has on many patients. This simple package provides a solution allowing home measurements to be taken.

The package consists of the monitor, and a cuff with a tube. The monitor has a clear LCD screen, and requires 4 AAA (LR03) batteries in order to operate (show the display, and inflate the cuff). The tube is easily attached to the monitor. Once the cuff is placed on the arm above the elbow, a simple push of the start button inflates the cuff and then slowly deflates it. Full instructions are provided, giving advice on how to use and fit the monitor.

My one concern was that the cuff would be too small for my arms. I'm not a body builder by any means, but have chunky enough arms that I thought the provided cuff would be too small. But it isn't - it fits well, is comfortable and has some room spare.

All in all I am thoroughly impressed with this blood pressure monitor from Omron - one of the leading names in the field.

    Five stars.

Bought this on recommendation of the nurse at my local surgery to monitor my BP readings over a period of time. Did wonder if I was taking them correctly and if the readings were accurate. When I revisited the surgery for the nurse to review the readings, she checked the readings on my monitor and hers while I was with her, and they were exactly the same. So I was doing things correctly and the machine is spot on. I did have to purchase a large size monitor cuff at extra expense, but all in all, it was money well spent.

This product is not fit for purpose.Having had this BPM.since November I have given it a good trial.
Getting on in age I thought that I would purchase this BPM.so as to monitor my own blood pressure, been taking my BP. on a daily basis since November.Recording average readings of 118/69 fantastic, so I thought ???.

On the 05/02/2014.I attended the local hospital where my BP was taken 3 times, I nearly fell off the chair. My average BP.recorded 142/90. I made an appointment to see my GP taking the BPM with me.I explained to the GP regarding the differences in readings,my own and those done by the hospital.

The GP.then took my BP using my BPM the pro logic.Reading 119/70 Then his BPM. reading 140/87. The GP concluded and informed me politely that the BPM. I am using is not functioning correctly and to dump it.

I have been back to the GP for BP monitoring and am now on medication for high blood pressure.

I purchased this PRO LOGIC bpm, firstly for all the fantastic reviews and the price. In the end it turned out costly. No BPM

    Purchase at your peril. Ken.

The Pro Logic blood pressure arm monitor is a machine that meets the British Hypertension Society's standards and is cited on their website. This means that the user can expect it to perform to a satisfactory level with regard to recording blood pressure. This is the most important statement that I can make in this review but I do have a few more points that I would like to make to the potential purchaser.
The machine itself represents good value for money. I know that there are more sophisticated ones on the market but all the bells and whistles, such as reading memory and facilities for dual use, are mere niceties. It does, however, come without the batteries required for it to work immediately and this is an irritation. A little case would be pleasant but this is not essential and the price does not merit it. It is worth mentioning that it is a derivative from the Omron stable.

It is worth noting that the medium sized cuff may not be adequate for everyone and the user should ensure that it meets their requirements as readings are affected by such things. I asked a well-qualified medical consultant for his view and he measured the cuff indicating that arm sizes above 28.5 cms (ish) might find it a little small (due to the cuff bladder size) but he does have certain personal preferences as he admits and going with the technical specifications is fine.

My main issues were around the "paperwork" issued with the machine. The front of the box says "1 in 3 adults in the UK have high blood pressure. Do you? (sic)" This requires explanation as it is age group dependent.

I purchased this to replace another unit that I've had for a couple of years as when compared to my GP's test, my old unit was not very accurate. This new monitor is smart and compact and works well although of note: It does not have a memory therefore does not store previous BP/pulse reading (my previous unit stored the last 30 readings). Also, the supplied arm band is very small in circumference (measures 18.5 cms between the the "Min" and "Max" fittings - not 22cm to 32cm as printed on the band itself). Assuming that I can get the larger arm band, then I will revise my rating accordingly.
