PES 2009 is the latest installment of the award-winning Pro Evolution Soccer Series, which is known by millions of fans for its superior gameplay and incredible realism. For PES 2009, Konami is already planning a raft of extensive new additions that will further bridge the gap between PES and the real thing. The new game has undergone a stunning graphical update to ensure its players look and move even more like their real-life counterparts. Similarly, all-new options allow users to tailor the game to their own tastes, while new moves, innovative new control elements and key online elements will further the realism of the new game.

Where to start- the pace of the game is much more realistic, the way you can change from slow passing to a fast fluid attack or just plain long ball is brilliant. Passing may take a while to get used to, but if you perservere, you can be incredibly creative. The through ball along the ground and chipping is amazing and if you have the imagination and skill you can make amazing passes with low stat players.
Shooting is better its harder but you can score from more obscure angles. Tackling has improved, you can make some crunching tackles that are true to life. 50/50 balls are more winnable and your team mates run into space. Some people have complained that they can't get bodies into to the box, I have not had this problem, but Pro is not a predictable game.
The Marseille Roulette has been altered to be used on the directional stick, and only certain players can use it, it is more effective and deadly a skill as a result. Manual passing has improved and you can play some neat intricate passes with it as well as some fast paced passes.
Become a Legend is addictive and will improve your general play. Set pieces are more effective in this game as you can curl the ball better.
Its always a joy to play this game with your friends, though when you get beat it doesn't seem that way!
Overall its down to your own imagination what you get out of Pro Evo 9. With its addictive Master League as well as other leagues and tournaments, it has the explosive nature of football from wonder goals to dodgy deflections, scintiallating performances and scrappy one nil victories.
VIVA LA FOOTBALL AND VIVA PRO!!!!!
This year the look of the game has hardly changed. Slighty clearer graphics (stadiums good) but not as good as FIFA 09 (which i have also been playing). The new Champions league mode is good but hasnt been incorperated into the Master League (shame). All the other features of old, Leagues, Cups are the same.
Be a Legend is a New feature. You enter yourself at 17yrs old into any role in a team (attacking winger for me) and you have to play boring training matches and do well (these actually improved my general play). You then get picked if your good enough for first team matches, offers from other clubs and international call ups come in, etc, etc..
The Plus point is the gameplay.. Its a lot slower and geared around possession football. Your passes need to be aimed better and dont travel as far. Shots from outside/near the box need to be more prescise and the feel of the game for me is a lot better than last year.
Comparing it to FIFA 09 it losses on Presentation, Graphics, Sound and the big factor licences for teams/players/competions etc.
But it makes up for it in 'realism' and the new Be a Legend feature is novel but becomes very addictive.
Scoring a goal is so much more rewarding than on Fifa and with the amount of patches available to tweak your game (evo web & gaming access web site) you can soon have all the correct names, etc
If this came out the box with the fifa presentation i would give it FIVE stars. As it stands its still worth the money for real football on PC...
Now.. it is entirely up to the individual what you're after. But many a football game player who enjoys playing the game will love this!
YES you don't get all of your *amazing* licenced teams from all over the universe. You don't with FIFA either by the way.. lets be honest.. it's now about the *official* club badges and strips. If you're that obsessed with having the proper strips, sponsors, logos etc.. edit them into the game ;)
It's much more fun as a PC games player to sit and mess about with the settings first.
Now.. lets go for the game! First and foremost this is a FOOTBALL game. You take the ball, kick it about and try to score. It HAS got a LOT of licenced teams in there. The Champions League is covered so you have Liverpool, Man United, Rangers and Celtic in there. I for one support a team in Scotlands first division.. so it's a LITTLE bit of a pain they couldn't have acquired the licences for the lower leagues seeing as FIFA doesn't bother to do that...? But nevermind :P
Graphically.. I can't fault it. It's like any other PES.. the players look like they're supposed to actually look but in COMPUTER GAME format. So for me it kicks above FIFA's belt. I've played both games and I REALLY LIKE the new FIFA, ok?! So don't think this is biased. I'm on the fence with them both. FIFA has got some GORGEOUS graphics. But it's trying to be too real for me! I'd rather the gameplay any day.. can't stand a game that tries to be TOO much like real life.
On that matter does anyone remember the CDi? The 3DO? The Commodore CDTV? They all flopped WILDLY after a year or so. They came out and were HUGE..Read more ›
