It's nice to see that the Colemanballs tradition continues, giving its originator his place in literary history, and preserving the amazing things that get said during the heat of the sporting moment as well as in the strange interviews that always have to happen but which usually turn up cliches and often-repeated sound-bytes. Colemanballs is thus a reflection on our current society in addition to highlighting these 'slips of the tongue' that often tell us more about the people involved than the scripted non-stuff.

This edition is well worth reading, with its accompanying cartoons and its classification into various categories, not even letting the politicians off the hook. A great book to be put into the pocket so that it can be read on the tube, in the taxi, on the bus, etc., causing instant grins and chuckles. These one-liners are also very useful for the English language class, since they show that sentences that are grammatically correct can be semantically ambiguous, contradictory, or illogical, thus helping students to look at published texts critically.

What can you say about a specific Colemanballs book? All the ones I've read have been full of hilarious verbal blunders, mixed metaphors layered upon more mixed metaphors and (a personal favourite) totally inept uses of the word 'literally'. This installment has some crackers, including several from 'new face' Jamie Redknapp, along with reliable tripe from the likes of Geoff Boycott and Willie Thorne. These books are great shared with a group, but will also raise a laugh out loud when read alone. Private Eye even welcomes public entries, which brings a whole new dimension to listening to sports commentary, hunting for that new gem of moronity that could grace the pages of the next book.
Everyone talks rubbish at some point, but some seem to do it more than others...

I buy this book as a stocking filler for friends every year it's published and it always provides a chuckle.

Quite funny and enjoyable but not as good as most of its predecessors. The out loud guffaws are replaced by smiles and sometimes incomprehension, at least for me.
