I bought this is preference to another make, of similar looks, because this was considerably cheaper: I can't know how it compares in quality, however, but considering the cost of good drawing boards of A1 and larger, this does represent value for money, with allowance for the following points. This is definitely student quality; not to say that you couldn't produce professional designs using it, but some of the parts are plasticky, by which I mean they are made with a cheaper grade of plastic than you might expect in a professional quality board. This is not a problem to me and, as such, the quality is fine for what I need the board for. The board, itself, is solid, about 17mm thick, with a good metal stand that is well finished and effective - you need 700mm of depth for it to sit securely on a tabletop, so the board commands serious real estate. It can lie flat and the stand has a clip to keep it that way, or you can raise it up to several positions to about 45 deg. so you will need a stool rather than a chair if using it seated. The parallel motion had to be set when I received it, but this is not a difficult job; there are adjustable weights for cable tension and these, as well as the rollers are made of plastic too. If any of my children required a drawing board for their courses of study, I would have no hesitation in recommending this one: for architectural students, a drawing board and drafting machine would be an expensive, if preferable, alternative, but for old-fashioned drawing with instruments, this board is certainly good enough and I am satisfied with it for the drawing/design work I am called to do.
