Product Description

Review

'Fleet Street veteran Phil Dampier, who has been writing about the Royal Family for 26 years, and Ashley Walton, royal correspondent of the Daily Express from 1979 to 1992, have compiled Prince Philip: Wise Words and Golden Gaffes a new collection of his one-liners to follow up their best-selling book Duke of Hazard: The Wit and Wisdom of Prince Philip. The book, published today, portrays Philip in a slightly more flattering light than their first one.''I think the Duke comes across as a much more complex and thoughtful character in this book, as we've got a lot of his wisdom as well as some of his infamous so-called gaffes'' said Phil. ''He is a national treasure and I think the public now holds him in possibly more affection than ever before. They love his straight-talking and the fact that he is not tied down by political correctness.''' --The Daily Express - 15th June 2015

About the Author

Phil Dampier has been writing about the royal family for 26 years. Between 1986 and 1991 he covered the royal beat for The Sun, Britain's biggest-selling daily newspaper. As a freelance journalist for the last 20 years, he has travelled to more than 50 countries, following members of the House of Windsor, and his articles have been published in dozens of newspapers and magazines worldwide. He frequently appears on radio and TV, and gave expert analysis for Global National TV of Canada during their coverage of the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in April 2011. Ashley Walton was the royal correspondent of the Daily Express from 1979 to 1992. He travelled to every continent covering numerous tours, including the Queen and Prince Philip in India, Africa and China. He was one of the first reporters to identify a young Lady Diana Spencer as a future royal bride, and covered her last tour with Prince Charles to South Korea in 1992. He was also among the first to reveal the romance between Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

An excellent diversion, and the D of E's obviously tongue-in-cheek comments are a joy to read in this PC-ridden and Tree-Hugging-brigade infested country of ours!

You will of course encounter quite a few episodes that have been reported in the press, but overall the book's a joy to read.

What a 'Superb' little book! When I saw it listed, I thought it would be likely to be an 'Amusing' read, and I was not dis-appointed. Right from the first page, it made me smile, and this then gave way to real laughter!! Even reading pieces to my husband, we both were delighted, and amazed that what I was reading were actual quotes from the Prince!! So much so, that my Husband said, 'Oh! To be the Prince for a day, and to be able to express your opinions - and to get away with it'!! If, you are feeling a little down, this lovely little book - will soon make you feel better, and completely alter your opinion of the Prince, as it has us. If he is always like this, Family parties and get-togethers, must soon turn into good times for them all, its just a pity, that he doesn't always show a more compassionate side too. The Cartoon's are excellent, and really convey the humour and wit of this nonagenarian.!!

As a former military man I like Phillip and his no-nonsense attitude. I do not tolerate fools either.

This is a quite funny little book with some the Duke's well known comments and I wish their were more of his type around today instead of the snags we see passing themselves off as real men.

The book is hilarious, I bought it as a present for my husband and it sits in the living room and all our guests over Christmas have laughed over the book. Some of the gaffes are very similar, so it can be a little repettitive, but it is a good little gift to someone with a good sense of humour.

Bought as a stocking filler for my husband but on flicking through it i found it not to be as hilariously funny as i had heard. Yes there are some great comments that only Philip could come out with, but i was expecting a book full of his wonderful gaffes and so therefore a little dissapointed.

Always thought of HRH as a unthinking tourist, this book shows him to be a bit of a wit and much deeper character, well worth a punt!

Very amusing book. He speaks his mind and is always spot on with his comments. Excellent read. He should have his own TV programme - so entertaining!
