Donis A. Dondis offers an objective and highly applied approach to visual concepts with an emphasis on two-dimensional visual communication. A major feature of the book are thoughtful applied exercises at the end of each chapter. Some of the exercises are dated as far as technology is concerned, and are probably more easily approached using more modern technologies. For example, some exercises using a film camera can be updated to use a digital camera or scanner and image-editing software. Otherwise, Dondis' approach is as fresh today as when the book was first written. By working through the exercises, a person can get a hands-on experience and understanding of the concepts presented. This and the thoughtfulness with which the concepts are organized make the book useful for anyone with an interest in visual communication...
I am currently studying a BA Hons in Graphic Design, this book was recommended to the whole class via our tutor. It is a very good book for both students and the professionals, this book really helps you understand the 'theory' of Graphic Design, I can't actually think of anything that this book is missing! Very good book would recommend to all.
