This book is a pretty good summary/amalgamation of many of the very best books on diet I have found, such as Eat Fat, Lose Fat: The Healthy Alternative to Trans Fats by Sally Fallon, Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food by Catherine Shanahan, Real Food: What to Eat and Why by Nina Planck, Know Your Fats : The Complete Primer for Understanding the Nutrition of Fats, Oils and Cholesterol by Mary G. Enig, The Coconut Oil Miracle by Bruce Fife, The Whole Soy Story: The Dark Side of America's Favorite Health Food by Kaayla T. Daniel, The Schwarzbein Principle: The Truth About Losing Weight, Being Healthy, and Feeling Younger by Nancy Deville....
Plus: Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Natasha Campbell-McBride, Traditional Foods Are Your Best Medicine: Improving Health and Longevity with Native Nutrition by Ronald F. Schmid, The Cholesterol Myths: Exposing the Fallacy That Saturated Fat and Cholesterol Cause Heart Disease by Uffe Ravnskov and The Primal Blueprint: Reprogram your genes for effortless weight loss, vibrant health, and boundless energy (Primal Blueprint Series) by Mark Sisson.
What is also wonderful about this book is that it is also a book about health and treating illness. It deals with the topic of health in some depth and does NOT just tell you to eat well and as your ancestors did and everything will be fine.Read more ›
I picked it up quite by chance and feel so strongly that the message it conveys is of such importance in light of current levels of ill-health and obesity, that I decided to write a review.
Having followed a high protein, medium fat, low carb (zero gluten) diet (Paleo diet) for umpteen years and recommending it to my clients (I am a Kinesiologist), I can state without fear of contradiction that the mere exclusion of carbs, gluten and dairy from one's diet will go a very long way to improving one's overall health without pills and potions - a VERY long way.
I am 51 years old, 5'5", gym 3X a week, weigh 79kg (just over 12 stone so BMI over 30 - apparently obese - JOKE) with a 31 inch waist, my blood-pressure is some 112 over 65, body-fat 11 to 13% with NO cardio work at all, and best of all, my doctor NEVER sees me. In fact they have taken to phoning me to attend clinics now that I have reached a half-century (seems they think everyone is coming apart at the seams once they hit 50!) - and I put my current physical and mental health down to one simple thing - my diet.
Yes the diet does require re-educating yourself to eat differently, see fats differently and planning your grocery shopping differently, and yes your body may initially crave what you have been feeding it for so many years, but once the initial 10 to 14 day period has elapsed and your body started to rebalance, no pill or potion on earth will match its effectiveness in rebuilding your health.Read more ›
With introduction to many many myths on dieting and health. The primal body cuts through it all and debunks all the nonsense we are exposed to.
I recommend this book to people on all walks of life. I've read a great many of books in the field of nutrition and health. Whilst also living my days as a Vegetarian convinced that my beliefs were true. Fortunately I began to open my mind to what has kept us humans alive for the past 2.3 million years.
I was greatly submerged in the whole Anthony Robbins, PH Miracle and China study way of eating. Until I realized that how blinded these people were because they failed to study both sides of the coin. Had they studied both sides, they would not hold such strong convictions and annihilate any ideas in the consumptions of animals and fat.
I'll quote Dr Robert Young when he said ''We were never designed to eat meat'' But then how can one explain, how man has survived the ice age when plants were scarce, and what kept us fully functioning was the fat of an animal and its protein sources? Such an irrational statement.
This is the book to read if you are suffering from chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia or feeling tired all the time. It is also the book to read if you seem to be healthy, and just want to improve your health a bit. I thought of myself as healthy. Well, I didn't know what being healthy could be until after I start to seriously follow the low carb, high saturated fat diet.
Although the book does an excellent job on answering WHY you should change your diet, it does not offer much information on HOW to do it. So it is important to read a few other books such as The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living: An Expert Guide to Making the Life-Saving Benefits of Carbohydrate Restriction Sustainable and Enjoyable, and search the web for experience from paleo dieters.
