It is just sublime, a beautiful volume that identifies how priests and those aspiring towards that state, may increase in holiness, and truly understand the nature of the priest-victim. A great volume I could not recommend it more to any priest, seminarian or aspirant. A truly orthodox view that is so hard to find these days, another great book by Bishop Sheen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep and beautiful meditation on priesthood by a faithful and beloved priest 30 Sept. 2016
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Deeply theological and good to read for both priests and lay people. I especially appreciated chapter 9 on the Spirit and counseling. "Priestly counseling is basically the application of the Redemption to the individual... Compassion is identification with others, whether they be laughing or weeping..." p.153-156. There are so many nuggets of wisdom and exhortation to holiness written by a man who proved to be faithful and venerable. His treatment of the priest as victim is what begins this wonderful meditation on the holy priesthood. It does so much good to read his work. I highly recommend it for priests and those who are friends with priests and wish to encourage them and for any person wishing to grow in their faith and Catholic theology.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Priest is Not His own by Bishop Fulton J Sheen 25 Mar. 2013
By Kindle Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is an exceptional book and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I would highly recommend reading this book even if you are not a priest. I bought the book for my grandsons so they would know what would be expected of them if they decided to become priests. I am married and have been for over 50 years and after reading the book myself I would recommend it to everyone. When married men read the book substitute the word "Father" for "Priest". For single men reading the book but not contemplating the priesthood or religious life substitute the word "Man" for the word "Priest". Read from this different perspective will change your life and how you live it. This is how God is calling men to live lives of service to others. Read it if you dare - it is not for the faint of heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Archbishop Sheen, A Modern Saint 4 Feb. 2014
By Cathy - Published on Amazon.com

Always so profound and articulate. If all priests and those exploring religious vocations would read this book and take it to heart, the Church would be truly blessed with incredible shepherds ready to take on the world. Lay people will also benefit from this book, letting them know the awesome responsibility needed to be one of Christ's shepherds and what is required of them in return. Start reading one of Archbishop's books and you will not stop until you have devoured them all. True peace. True love. True joy. In Christ.
