'My God, it's a truly wonderful thing of beauty ... a very tasty masterpiece!' --Jamie Oliver
'A lot has been said in recent years about the death of the cookbook the blithe assumption being that, with 43,500,000 chocolate brownie recipes online, no one could possibly need any more in print. Happily for those of us who write these books, there are several problems with this idea, not least of which is that, if you only Google dishes you already know, you'll never stumble across treasures such as the truly magnificent Princess Surprise Bombe in Regula Ysewijn's stunning history of British puddings from spotted dick to syllabub, Pride and Pudding (Murdoch). Gorgeously photographed by Ysewijn herself, and meticulously researched, it's one to pore over in bed as well as in the kitchen, and that's not something you can say about many websites. Or at least, not the ones I tend to visit.' --The Guardian, 3rd December 2016 (Best cookbooks of the year)
'Regula Ysewijn's Pride and Pudding is a beautiful part-illustrated book celebrating the history of the British puddings both savoury and sweet. Each recipe, from spotted dick and pease pudding to apple charlotte, comes with its own fascinating potted history.' --Stylist magazine

Pride and Pudding is a beautiful presented and well designed book , it's very interesting to read a
and well exceptionally researched , some of the recipes are intriguing and their history fascinating .
These days we mostly think of pudding as a sweet treat forgetting about savoury puddings this book reminds us of their existence .
This beautifully produced book with georgous photography is well worthy of shelf space .
Each recipe included contains the original recipe and the historical background. This book is written by a ‘Flemish girl,’ in her own words. However, her love for British food; for the traditions and history involved, shines through every page. As the medieval proverb says, “All the proof of a pudding is in the eating…” so, if you enjoy cooking then this will certainly appeal to you. This includes Boiled and Steamed puddings, Baked puddings, Batter puddings, Bread puddings, Jellies, milk puddings and ices, plus Master recipes.
The photography is stunning and, if you are interested in the history of food, this is an enjoyable to read as to cook from. This would make a brilliant present for any foodie in your life – but do buy yourself a copy too. It really is too tempting not to.
It is also a beautiful object with wonderful photography and illustration.
I firmly believe that British cooking, if done well, is up there with the finest in the world. If I needed to prove the point I'd use this book.
I've had a sneaky look before wrapping.....its interesting, a good read, reminding us of old puds and introducing new ones.
A well produced book, I like the design, pictures etc.
You learn interesting recipes, you discover facts and anecdotes about British history and, not less important, you have a collection of tempting recipes to try. They are authentic and true to their origins, a window open in a past time when there were no ovens, fridges, electric blenders. Regula opens your eyes on ingredients and techniques, giving you all the instruments to reproduce those recipes at home, to your satisfaction.
