Yes it has a Southern rock sound running through it, and yes people do seem to say that the album has a C & W sound to it, but both these things are of little importance when you consider the talent, emotion, and lyrical strength of this music. In the same way that if you ask a die hard Led Zep fan if he prefers the blues edge of their early work of the folk edge of their middle work, he will doubtless reply 'Who cares it is all better than anything else you will hear', Zakk and friends deliver an album of excellence that hits you from the very first note and carries you right through.
Zakk's guitar work is definately the best in the world at the moment his vocals are powerful and beautiful and his piano playing is perfect for the setting.
I reiterate; if the most important aspects of your music are talent and rock buy this album. It will not disappoint.

This is truly one of the rock world's overlooked masterpieces from the 1990's. Zack Wylde (former guitarist with Ozzy Ozbourne and now of Black Label Society) has pulled out all the stops to create a truly fresh and original sounding album. The tunes are littered with all kinds of influences from the southern states of the USA to create an amazing new amalgam, and Brian Tichy provides some of the best drumming I have ever heard. I imagine this is what Lynyrd Skynyrd would've sounded like if they had been around today! Rock music fans should not miss this one!

Well, my copy of Pride and Glory came this morning, being a long time Zakk and BLS fan, I'm pretty well aquainted with his work, and having only given this album one listen I'm wondering why I didn't get it sooner. With most of the BLS albums (Apart from Alcohol fuelled Brewtality), it took me a few listens to get into them, but Pride and Glory has honestly grabbed me from the first listen. I'm sure previous reviews have adequately summarised the sort of sound going on here...a bit dixie rock (Think Allmans and Skynyrd - I swear one lick is just ripped from "Blue Sky") with that special Zakk sound running through it, also, Zakk is actually trying to sing and produce meaningful solo's here and doing a good job. Some good things that have struck me so far after a few listens...the Jimi Hendrix Wah Zakk was using at the time makes it's effects well heard in some of the guitar work, with some cool Jimi sounding solos, and the fact Zakk isn't playing all of the instruments (for once) means the recording has more of a spontaneous sound, rather than all the overdubs you get on a lot of BLS stuff. I'm not normally a 5 star reviewer but I think this is well up there, it's not groundbreaking stuff, but the simplicity and charm of this record gives it a fighting chance of making an impact in anyones collection.

This is quite simply one of the best albums I have ever owned. I first listened to it 8 years ago, and loved it. I bought it recently and still can't believe how many excellent songs are on it.

Usually you get weak songs on any album, even Best Of albums but not this one. It has everything. Whether you like Rock, Metal, Blues or Folk you will love this.

Back in the day when you could buy albums on casette I purchased this little gem and quickly wore it out. I then replaced it with the CD and then bought the CD + bonus disk and if they brought out a CD + bag of nobbly bits I'd go and buy that too!!

This is classic rock and then some. This has raw emotion pumping through it in every song. I don't think Zakk has sung better in his life. All three musicians are on top, top form as they thunder through the songs. Mr. Wylde proves his consumate musicianship by playing various instruments to the mighty high standard that we all expect.

This album has a country/southern rock flavour, mashed with a touch of blues and delivered with soul and emotion. Go to You Tube, watch Zakk's acoustic version of Machine Gun Man, and you'll know what I'm talking 'bout brother.

Buy now, you will never regret it. You will then know the greatest lyric ever written from 'Horse Called War'...
'If the end be a coming, I'll soon be a bumming, all you Jesus Freaks...'

Genius, nuff said :)
