This was a freebie, but I'm reviewing it because I enjoyed it.

OK, maybe I should have read the blurb with more care before I downloaded the book, because the descriptions don't stay with the book, and after a week (I downloaded lots of freebies) I had forgotten the lead in as I started reading!
Nice American girl goes to Africa and joins a veldt hotel. She is, of course, intelligent, beautiful and shy, and the hotel-owners son is the necessary man candy.
I was expecting a safari story with guests being pompous over the shy American, and when the hero changed into a lion I was somewhat surprised.
It got more interesting, and although the ex-girlfriend is a bit plastic (that may well be deliberate) the rest of the characters have substance.
I enjoyed a light supernatural read, and may well go for the rest of the series

Africa, romance, shifters, lion

The publisher's blurb is a disservice to the book. It is not one of those vapid formula novels about a testosterone junkie are a brainless twit. Colin is a successful business man with a painful past. Serena is taking a semester to study lions with a renowned expert. Romance happens, and it is very well done. Did I mention that he is a lion shifter? And she is semi skilled in martial arts. Looking forward to more of the series.

A cute little short story that will have you roaring for your own lion. The author has created a great tale with a hard working heroine who almost worships her mentor, a woman renowned for her knowledge and work with the animals of Africa, but mostly the lions. What Serena wasn't expecting, was to loose her heart to her mentor's son, Colin. Believing him to be off limits, she desperately tries to curb her feelings, only to find she not only has the blessing of Pippa, but her encouragement to pursue him. Back on the homestead for a visit, and after a very unfortunate first impression, Colin never expected to find a woman who not only wants nothing to do with his money and status, but is interesting to talk to quite beautiful to look at. With an encouraging push from his mother, he opts to discover all he can of the quiet Serena. But his past carries a terrible mistake, one he can never repeat again, and seems like a huge weight he carries on his shoulders, and he knows he must maintain his distance, if he can.
A wonderful love story worth reading.
4.0 out of 5 stars They came from different worlds but they fit together beautifully. 4 April 2017

Colin in a man of many worlds who has made his mark in finance and society but because of a loss early in life is trying to be careful in his choice of a partner. Serena is a woman with a chance to fulfill her life's dream when she meets Colin. This is a short story with a lot of personality. It moves along quickly but believably. The descriptions are lovely. I am voluntarily reviewing this free book I received as an introduction to this author. The novella Savana Christmas is a wonderful epilogue to this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous new series 1 Jun. 2016
By TeacherWriter - Published on Amazon.com

This book is set in an exotic location with an exotic and sexy main character with a big regret in his past and a deep secret to keep. Serena is a strong young woman spending time in Africa while working on her degree in animal behavior. When she stays at the lodge, she finds more than she bargained for, and learns some new things about animals on the safari. This book is a short romance that's a little bit spicy. It's very tastefully done, and the characters are cultured but at the same time down to earth, like people you might meet in your own neighborhood. Tori Knightwood is a talented writer that knows how to put you right into the story. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!

This short standalone series opener set in Kenya. Serena Fitzgerald is a college age volunteer at a resort hotel, where she hopes to study lions for her eventual doctoral dissertation. Little does she know, she is living among lions, the shifter kind. Colin Kemboi is the son of the owner's of the resort and other properties. And like his father, he's a lion shifter.

Pride of Africa by Tori Knightwood introduces us to Serena who is interested in studying animals, mostly lions. While in Kenya, she meets Colin who turns out to be a lion shifter. This is a fast read, and it may be interracial, but that fact wasn't driven too deeply to the reader. It was a nice love story.
