There was a whole heap of things going on in this book. Strange religious cults. Runaway teenagers. Dancing girls. Spanking. Oh my! No wonder I was all a fluster.
The plot has intrigue, a little violence and a hot sexy alpha in Ivan. Candace has daddy issues real bad and some of her scenes with Ivan were a tad tough to read. Nonetheless it was well written.
Bizarre. Dark. Divergent. This is the recipe for the first book I read in this series and yes, not only can it be read as a standalone, it is also perfectly categorised as such. Why? Well, how many times have we all read a book in a series which we haven't started from the beginning and had trouble getting our heads around names and places? So to my delight, I sailed through this book without any confusion. However, it wasn't without its heart-stopping moments. I was forewarned that the story might not be to my liking. Far from it! The protagonists' pasts in a plot which had its twists and turns, kept me on the edge at all times.
Quote: Ivan ~ "Where did you touch yourself?"
Candace ~ "No, don’t …. don’t make me tell you."
Ivan ~ "No, little one. You’re going to show me."
The heroine's submissiveness towards her 'cum-captor-master' in every sense of the word, made me want to pull her hair out. After reading the first few chapters, I could only imagine she had never had the option of parental refusal to acquiesce, had never known any better and for this reason, she acted the way she did. I quickly came to the conclusion that her upbringing was a religious one since young adults don't usually ask for absolution and a character from a sect would come back to haunt her. She wants that freedom she has never had though. Poor, poor lass. When she realises what is in store for her, and with no means except for her strong survival instincts, she fights tooth and nail. Inadvertently disobeying, her punishment is outrageously harsh. And when the opportunity to escape the hellish situation she's in arises, she doesn't think twice.Read more ›
I really like Skye Warren’s work but I think this is my least favourite, I can’t put my finger on why but it didn’t evoke the same feelings I’d normally get from this author. I enjoyed it but there was something missing for me. It wasn’t as intense as previous book and I didn’t find it all that dark to be honest, maybe that’s where I felt it let itself down. I’m not sure really. It felt underdeveloped story wise, characters too I guess and I really wasn’t on board with the whole “Daddy” thing. It creeped me out, not so much at the beginning but more so when Ivan and Candy got together. It just felt….seedy. The writing was good as always, but there was a disconnect with the characters and plot line in general that stopped me thoroughly enjoying it. I liked the theme, I’m always a sucker for that kind of thing but that was really about all. Unfortunately I can’t go further than a 3 ½ rating for this.
ok I'm a virgin to Warren sky's books and being the 1st I've read I really enjoyed it , ok I get a lot of people getting put of by the daddy / little one sunoruio but I managed to by pass all that I get he wanting to keep her as some sort of little girl that he could protect and for her to see him as a daddy figure as she never had one, I think this just kinda came out of habit for the characters, I liked the way the story came together and look forward to the next book
