It boils water fast and fits very neatly on its power-platform, the platform looks like part of the kettle. This kettle looks beautiful in the kitchen.
The painted finish is definitely NOT hard-wearing. This cannot be compared with enamelled kettles of old. In my view it is far too vulnerable for average kitchen use. No surface of a kettle should be as weak as this. Even careful types (like me) sometimes jolt a kettle against a tap. A light knock scrapes the paint off this kettle easily and spoils it in no time. This is certainly no kettle for the average knock-about kitchen.
In use when carefully filling a teapot, the kettle drips slightly.
If the look of a kettle is all that matters go for this beauty. Otherwise think again, is my verdict.
While it is pearlescent, this is subtle enough not to distract in our setting and the cream colour sits well with the primary cream throughout the kitchen. The shape blends well with the style of other items in the kitchen, although this kettle would look equally good in a modern contemporary dwelling.
On the technical side, it comes to the boil quickly; it makes a bit of noise, although I find this is common with more powerful elements; the spout is perfectly designed to pour accurately and can be controlled with confidence without dangerous dripping; the length of the electric cable can be coiled discreetly in the base to avoid trailing wires; the handle is ergonomically designed to give great control when pouring; the lid is a nice snug fit and is well engineered.
The downside? The Marketers have seemingly overruled the designers by insisting on sticking the brand name, in relief, on the side of the kettle, I would have preferred this to have been omitted.
Overall, a quality premium product, well designed, well built and with great all round performance.
A final word for Amazon - great service and the price was considerably less than traditional retailers.
I can see that the filter cover, which is much more easy to see than the level indicator, is physically higher than the water level indicator, and it seems evident that if you fill the kettle to the filter cover then the boiling water is almost certainly going to 'spit' out the spout.
Most of the other benefits have already been described - solid looking - nicely balanced - nice colour etc., and this is a high power (kW) kettle so it boils very quickly. The downside is that as a consequence of the high power it is noisy - but not for long because it boils quickly!
One other downside is that the level indicator is not that easy to see - in use we fill our kettle from a water filter jug so can precisely control the water flow - I can see that when filling this kettle direct from a main water tap it would be less easy not to fill the kettle over the level indicator
I imagine that if you are of the younger generation (under 50) and have always used side-handle kettles, you may not have used a traditional kettle with the handle above the kettle, so the balance of the kettle whilst pouring maybe strange at first. For us senior citizens the traditional handle makes a full kettle easier to support and carry and I guess we know not to lift the lid off whilst the kettle is full of steam!
So on balance, after discussion with my wife, we agreed that as no rocket science was involved in filling the kettle, and if my three score plus 10 (and a bit) wife has no problems, this product was worthy of five stars.
- the design is quirky and out of the ordinary
- the colour is a beautiful rich red that catches the eye; very decorative
- it brings water to the boil very quickly
- large capacity
- cordless facility very useful
- light tells you whether the switch is on or off
- the spout can spit (once it spat boiling water on my hand)
- the red coating chips off very easily; I already have two chips in mine, despite handling it with normal care
- sometimes when you put the kettle on the 'docking station', the kettle doesn't register it and you have to jiggle it a little to get it to work
I would dearly love to give this product more stars (I'd give it 3 1/2), as it looks so stunning, but the negatives can't be argued away. Ultmately I'm happy with it, as it looks great (I have to turn it so the chips are not visible) and is fast, but I wish it were more durable.
