Whether you're in a rush or you just want to create better structured, more fluid presentations, this book has everything you need.
I particularly liked the chapter on benefits and downsides in particular the experience matching. For me (as I speak at conferences where the audience are non-specialists) this was particularly useful on how to tailor the presentation for those who have a little bit of knowledge in the field but who want to learn more.
The book is written to cover everything from pitches to keynote speeches and so it will stay on my desk where I can dip into it for ideas and to keep me orientated no matter whether I'm speaking to a single decision maker or several hundred people at a conference.
Highly recommend it - and having done this for 25 years plus, I can safely say that it has given me new enthusiasm for this area of my professional life.
The book finds a deft balance of confident and professional assertions, plain-spoken step-by-step advice and genuine encouragement. I recommend it to anyone who needs QUICK and practical help on how to prepare a presentation. If you're new to presentations and you've just bought this, then I believe you've struck gold!
I'm pretty sure more experienced communicators will find numerous gems in 'Presentation Now' that will enhance their presentations further. I'd go so far as to say that after reading this book some people will discard their previous presentation methodology and adopt the principles and methods in this book instead.
Reading this book has pointed out to me how I’ve been going about things backward all this time, relying on my natural ability to speak to people and tell a nice story, instead of considering my audience, teasing them, and building a proper presentation.
This book is written in a delightfully candid way that makes you feel that the author is a friend giving you some advice that he has picked up along the way. It’s offered with support, structure, a time scale (very useful for someone like me), and the caveat that you WILL need to redo sections in order to keep working on your abilities. It doesn’t feel like a textbook, it doesn’t feel like a set of rules. It feels like guidance and suggestions, and some are huge eye openers to me.
I’m actually really looking forward to my next presentation so I can try out the techniques from this book.
