Have been listening to this cd for 6 months now,yes a little bit slower but i think this adds to this live performance, why would i want to listen to studio work the whole idea of live music is it is a bit different, dont knock this great band. Recently saw them live at hammersmith apollo and thought they were as good as when i saw them in 1972 and this cd is as good as that performance.Long may they reign.

Do we really need yet another Yes live album, one that doesn't even have Jon Anderson on it? Do we rally need yet another version of Starship Trooper and Roundabout? I wasn't so sure beforehand but now I have heard this I reckon it is very worth having.

The sound is miles better than the House of Yes CD from a few years ago, Steve Howe is playing better than I have ever heard him, Oliver Wakeman proves to be a real chip off the old block, and its the only chance to hear tracks from Drama played live as far as I know.

The vocals are the only problem because you can't help comparing them but in truth Benoit David does a difficult job very well. I have a lot of sympathy for him: if he tries to put in any sort of flourishes it will be assumed that he tried to copy Jon and failed, but if he doesn't then its going to be a soulless exercise.

I think he pulls it off, and it does help that the rest of the band are at the top of their game.

The whole thing is beautifully packaged and has 2 hours of music on 2 CDs plus nearly an hour on DVD.

It also passes the acid test of a live album: do I wish I had been there in Lyon in 2009? Yes I do.

As a long term fan of the group (going on 35 years now), I was sceptical about yet another live release from the group. However having listened to it several times, I can fully appreciate the wisdom of releasing this at this juncture in their career. It not only brings new life to some older classics, but also allows the group to be more flexible in their choices & play some of the "long lost" Drama era epics (Tempus Fugit & Machine Messiah) as well as Astral Traveller from the Banks era. These are all truly welcome and reflect the changes that appear to have occurred since Jon Anderson was sidelined. All the classics are still present & correct (And You And I, Starship Trooper & Yours is no Disgrace etc) and it is also a welcome to see appearances of South Side of the Sky as well as Onward. For those of you wary about the introduction of Benoit David to the line up should not worry in the slightest, as he brings out all the nuances of Anderson as well as introducing his own voice to the mix, which amounts to being a pleasant cross between both Anderson & Horn. The results are very good indeed. Long may it continue and I look forward to a live release from the Fly From Here tour. I have the bonus DVD with this package, which is a nice touch, though I would have liked to have seen at least a couple of extra full tracks included - though as a "bonus" disc it does its job well enough. 4 Stars overall as I feel that there was scope for at least a couple of extra tracks they could have played (such as Going For the One or Gates of Delirium - now that would have made this a 5 star plus if they had been included).

I'd like to say that I HAVEN'T been listening to Yes for 30+ years (as a lot of the other reviewers HAVE) but unfortunately I can't. However, the last concert I was at WAS attended by a suprising number of youngsters. As a more senior YES concert goer (accompanied by bored spouse), I was curious to hear what their more recent concerts sound like, especially with the new vocalist. I was impressed.
Good points: 1) Like many Yes fans, I must have multiple versions of the same songs. This album does have appreciably different interpretations of the classics, which are good and still very tight (not like the butchering that some bands perpetrate live). Often the difference is to slow the tempo down and treat the songs to a more sedate and elegant interprtation (see later).
2) Their excellent sound system on tour gives us a recording comparable to the studio. Also when at a live gig, although loud, you can actually hear when you leave (due to the lack of distortion),
3) The present line-up works fine - be reassured.
Bad points: The lack of tempo and energy, bemoaned by other reviewers. Fair enough - but as I already own recordings of electrifying YES concerts (think America in the 70s and Keys), I can listen to them. I don't want to pay for the same each time I buy a live YES album. If I'd actually been there, I'd have preferred the up-beat performances of the past.
Finally, who should buy this? - definately the older fans. If you are new to Yes, buy the older live albums first. But if you've already been there, try this fresh take on the classics.

Ok,this isn't the present lineup but the one with Oliver Wakeman on keyboards. This, however, is a welcome addition to the various live offerings Yes have produced over the years. Firstly, let's get one quibble aside, Siberian Khatru lacks the pace and aggression that has made it a really great opener in the past. It seems to me in recent years that Steve Howe has just eased off the throttle a bit on this one. But that aside it is still a good track. What really makes this stand out are the tracks from Drama and Time and a word that at last get an airing live. 'Tempus Fugit' is an underrated Yes classic, 'Astral Traveller' is proof that Yes were a band to reckon with before the Yes album and there is a beautiful version of 'Onward', a track that I was never particularly keen on in its studio form. All the other tracks are present and correct in their execution live and at last Steve Howe seems to have put his mark on 'Owner of a Lonely Heart'. The DVD is the icing on the cake with a live performances of 'Roundabout' and 'Machine Messiah' and if I could give it another half star for that I would!
