Firstly, let's look at what you get. The carousel is superb! It spins with ease, in fact I often stand at the stove just spinning it just because I find it satisfying! By being so easy to spin, it makes selecting your herbs and spices a dream. For a curry, I typically use 4 or 5, and can have them all picked out in a matter of seconds thanks to this product. The selection of 16 that are included are a little questionable but that's probably just my taste. For example, Marjoram to this day remains unopened! However, the beauty of this product is that you can swap in all your favourites. Does it work with other brands? Sadly, no. The Swartz jars sit perfectly (and never fall out when spinning) but any other jar is just the wrong size.
A surprise feature which I quite enjoy is that the handle on the top is attached to a lid, which when lifted reveals the hollow inside of the carousel. Its perfect for storing any little kitchen bits or extra packets of spices.
My only downside to this product is that it does tend to attract dirt and is a bit fiddly to clean when it does. That however, certainly shouldn't stop you buying it as in my opinion it is thoroughly worth the slightly higher price than other racks on the market. Trust me, you pay for the better build quality (I bought a cheaper one initially and immediately returned it as it was terrible).
The only slightly negative is just make sure that the top is securely fitted before picking the rack up by the loop on top!!!!
16 FULL JARS supplied but not necessarily those shown on the box which is just an illustration.
The reasonably sturdy cardboard presentation box measures in around 29 cm x 19.5 cm x 19 cm and opens to reveal the spices already mounted with just the lid, separate, to add on. A simple instruction leaflet is supplied, in English only, but it is a simple twist into place mechanism.
The box indicates the actual product sizing at 18 cm x 26 cm approx but I would allow 30 cm height to include the handle (c 17 cm with only 8 jars in place), based on my own set.
* COLOUR : BLACK PLASTIC-TYPE MATERIAL with MATT SILVER PLASTIC-TYPE top and CHROME-coloured metal handle.
* 16 regular-sized full SCHWARTZ jars (each c 11 cm high) with 8 ORANGE & 8 GREEN tops, to allow a coordinating scheme or a layer of all one colour.
As previously mentioned and stated on the box, 'the front picture is for illustrative purposes only', and the side of the box carries the full list of the actual items supplied:
* Mixed Spice
* Curry Powder (Medium)
* Chilli Powder (Mild)
* Coriander (Ground)
* Mixed Herbs
* Cumin (Ground)
* Cinnamon (Ground)
* Parsley (Flat Leaf)
along with a useful note about each one, e.g.
'BASIL: Basil is a herb with spicy overtones of aniseed and is strongly associated with Italian cooking. Basil is delicious with tomatoes, cooked or as a salad.'
The batch of spices I received all have lengthy 'Best Before' dates, early-mid 2014 with 'Paprika', being the only exception....Read more ›
