I've had a Cobb for 2 seasons now and I bought a second one this year. I have found that it is absolutely wonderful when used as per instructions. It is safe: doesn't get hot on the outside apart from the lid. Incredibly economical: 1 of the Cobb manufactured charcoal 'cobblestones' which lights instantly, cooks for around 2 hours. Alternatively, as fellow enthusiasts have pointed out, just 6 to 8 briquettes will do it. You can use it in drizzly weather. It smokes food as well as cooking it (smoked prawns are superb) It doesn't dry things out. I found that it cooked a half leg of lamb too quickly, but it was still really tender. Best of all, it is so portable, storable and lightweight.

We went camping this year in France, used it for most of our cooking and were actually allowed to use the Cobb where other barbecues had been banned on the campsites.

Forget about the fancy, large, gas barbecues. 1 Cobb will feed a family, but a couple of Cobbs on the go will cook enough food for a large barbecue party.

I'm planning broiled lobster for Boxing Day.....

Don't hesitate. If you need a barbecue, just get a Cobb!

Love it! It's like having your oven outside.
If you are the outdoors type, or lots of barbecue type, you will love this.

One thing......the optional roasting rack is a must as far as I am concerned.

I was dubious spending so much on a bbq. But so glad I did.
Pros: great to use, safe around the little people as cool to touch except the lid.
So far I have cooked jacket potatoes, rib of beef, boned leg of lamb, two boned chickens at once with vegs in moat, the big breakfasts, the list keeps on going.
Used mainly for camping feeding 6 hungry people.
Couldn't be with out it, Wok was best extra to buy, and going to go for the extension ring soon as well.
You use very little fuel.

CON: I can't get it as new looking once I scrub it, but I have been told I have OCD. Takes a while to learn to leave the lid to keep the heat in and NOT keep on turning the things as you would on a normal bbq.

We use this with our motor caravan and it has been absolutely brilliant, fits perfectly into the space where the spare gas bottle would have gone, light and easy to take out and set up, you have a roast dinner within 2 hrs of taking it out of the van. Wipe out with kitchen paper when cool and ready for next time. Great purchase

I was lucky enough to be bought one of these for my Birthday.
I have the "kitchen in a box" with all the accessories that I mention briefly below.

Firstly the unit itself. While the term BBQ is associated with this product it's not strictly a BBQ. It would more accurately be described as a charcoal burning oven. You do get a slightly smoked flavour but not the "flame grilled" taste of a BBQ. It does however work brilliantly as a Smoker, if you like that smoked taste. You can modify it to get the fat to drip onto the coals, but it does make it harder to clean.

To appreciate this fantastic piece of equipment you need to understand it's limitations. First and foremost it cooks at lower temperature so things will take longer than a conventional oven. I estimate the temp to be around 150oC ambient (inside the dome) with the grill plate (cooking surface) being much hotter. The benefit is that roast chickens and joints come out beautifully succulent, but it'll take about 2hrs (can be less if you monitor with temp probe). You can really over cook lumps of meat of this size.
The trick to using the Cobb is to let it heat up before putting on the food. Let the griddle or whatever come up to temperature and keep the lid on so it gets nice and hot. Also let the meat come to room temperature before cooking.

The design and build quality is fantastic and the customer service (from Cobb) is absolutely first rate. Have no fears about the warranty. The zip on my bag broke and was replaced immediately with a very kind email thanking me my custom.
It really is a nice product and one you'll be proud to own. It simply amazes me these aren't more popular. I guess it's a slow burn (excuse the pun) kind of thing.

Great bit of kit whether used in the back garden or the great outdoors. Just back from the Highlands of Scotland and a typical menu on one feed of coals (6) was fresh baked bread followed by stuffed roast pork with roasted spuds. You just can't complain. I've used BBQ's in many parts of the globe and the Cobb is the most user friendly yet. Simple to use, simple to clean and easy to transport.
