I was provided with a copy from FSSG on Goodreads for an honest and unbiased review.

Erin Angelo is living in Milan, having set up as a clothes designer with her label Black Butterfly. Having suffered loss in her life, she keeps herself closed off and protects her heart. Alek Dostov is a musical Maestro and has commissioned her to design the outfits for the ballerinas who will perform as La Scala under his musical guidance. Alek is half American half Russian and renowned for his playboy swinging lifestyle. Sparks fly between them at their first meeting and a cat and mouse chase ensues with Alek giving up his wilder side to win Erin around. In a twist it seems that the darkness from their pasts are intertwined and could end up tearing them apart.

I really enjoyed this book, it was well written and flowed well, Erin was a feisty heroine with a smart mouth which I love, Alek a bad boy turned good who has a way with words and a protectiveness of the woman he loves, which also fills one of my reading needs in a romance book. Whilst not left of a cliffhanger, there were some storylines that weren't neatly tied off in a bow, indicating that there will be a sequel which I'll happily read.

Due to the frequent changing POV's I felt like I never got in one characters head for long enough to really connect with them enough for me to give it five stars. Recommended if you like your romance with some drama and a little bit of heat.

The Prelude, (A Musical Interlude 1), by KaSonndra Leigh
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews
First of three romance novels set in the world of Music, Fashion, the CIA and the Russian Mafia....wow – what a great mix.
This one features Erin, part owner of The Black Butterfly, a design company in Italy. She's been through so much in her short life, has a really tragic background and is deterined Love hurts so she won't let it in her life. Then she meets Alek....incrdibly taleneted Maestro, world famous conductor and sexy, goodlooking and sought out by women everywhere...his company is using her designs in their latest productions. She's stunned at the visceral attraction she has to him. He's shocked too at how he feels for her, he's a player so why on earth is he feeling so differently about this girl?
It's peopled full of great characters with Erin and Alek being the major players, but some great backups, his sister Adriana and his Bitch of a mother, Katerina...then there's Erin's other partners and the crew who work in the studio withher.
It's a sensual setting in Italy, and that just adds to the feel of romance in the story. I loved the way their romance was one step forward and two back. There's excitement and drama in truckloads here, and the Russian Mafia and CIA involvement, along with other ruthless criminals, adds to that feel of danger that threatens the key players. There's mysteries to work out, who is after whom, and why, and how...and in all that Alek is trying to convince Erin to be with him.
It's tearjerking in parts, then when they do get together is searingly hot, erotic and sensual, that guy has all the right moves ;-) and its just the right balance of sex to story. It's a great read for lovers of romance with an exciting story full of secrets to puzzle out and one i'll re read. I look forward to reading the next two
Stars: four – fabulous read.

2.5 Stars.

I really wanted to like this book, I have a soft spot for Russian alpha males, and the premise and location of the actual story get top marks for me too. I love Italy and I love the arts with almost equal passion.

I am going to give my points about this book and try to be constructive with them as I think it does have potential, and I would be interested to read the rest of the series to see where it leads.

This is a shorter length novel being just over 200 pages, and for me I found the word repetition and use of certain phrases to be a bit much - Hot Spot, Sweet Spot and shoulder hugging are used frequently as well as "sucking teeth" not a phrase or action I can say I am au-fait with.

I know Alek is Russian hence the slightly jumbled sentences when he doesn't quite manage to translate them correctly. But sometimes it was just confusing, I had to go back and re-read sentences and at points whole paragraphs to try and decipher what was being said. Also the fact he is a "swinger" (Hate that word with a passion) is thrown in without any explanation, but he gives it up to be with Erin, all a bit sudden, and really if that is the sort of lifestyle you like, would you just decide to give it up for someone you aren't even in a relationship with at that point.

Continuity is another issue, I found the story seemed to jump all over the place and at points it got extremely confusing. Before deciding to be with Alek, Erin decides to set him challenges to prove he is worthy. The first (and only) one being they go dancing.......Sorry but I struggle to see how going dancing with a guy would prove he was worthy, she also decides pretty much on the spot, that he is worthy after said excursion and its full steam ahead.

***I received an ARC copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review ***

"The Prelude is the part of the song that pull you in, hypnotizing you with beauty. The beginning of the song hooks people inside it's spell and never lets the person go until the last note trickles through their mind"~ Jade

Erin Angelo is an American fashion designer now living and working in Milan. Heartbreak and demons from her past mean that Erin's walls have gone up, she stays away from relationships and love; she never lets anyone get close.

"Love, I have this to say to you: You tore open my heart. You made me feel pain when all I wanted to feel was joy. So now, I will remove your power over me". ~ Erin

Erin meets Alex Dostvo is a Russian Maestro, loves the ladies, doesn't do relationships, loves to have fun, he is a playboy a role that his mother is more than happy to encourage.

"Do you enjoy sex, Erin? If not, then you shouldn't be trying to snag my son. It'll never last."~ Alex's mother

Alex hires Erin to design costumes for one of his shows, Erin is attracted to Alex as he is to her as Erin never dates her bosses she is not going to start with Alex. Alex is not going to give up easily he can't shake this feeling that there is something about her, something familiar.

"What is it about Erin that does this to me? I've never had a woman bewitch me before"~ Alex

"Erin has the uncanny ability to take me to a place I've never been before. I can feel that about her."~ Alex

Erin and Alex are both likeable characters, Erin is strong and independent, and Alex arrogant, sexy, sweet and caring. I liked that relationship they had it was fun and flirting going on they have chemistry but its not instant love.
