Local and federal police hunt the sneaky alien creature, now skinning drug dealers in 1997 Los Angeles.
Predator wreaked havoc in the jungle and struck box-office gold, so Hollywood logic dictated that Predator 2 should raise hell in the big, bad city. Los Angeles, to be specific, and this near-future L.A. (circa 1997) is an ultra-violent playground for the invisibility-cloaked alien that hunted Arnold Schwarzenegger in the previous film. Scant explanation is given for the creature's return, and because Ah-nuld was busy making Total Recall, Danny Glover was awkwardly installed as the maverick cop (is there any other kind?) who defies a government goon (Gary Busey) to curtail the alien's inner-city killing spree. But why bother, when the victims are scummy Colombian drug lords? Don't look for intelligent answers; director Stephen Hopkins favors wall-to-wall action over sensible plotting, allowing Stan Winston's more prominently featured Predator to join the ranks of iconic movie monsters. And anticipating Alien vs. Predator, there's a familiar-looking skull in the Predator's trophy case! --Jeff Shannon --This text refers to an alternate DVD edition.

Schwarzenegger was unable to return to the series, and so the sequel was adapted. The focus here is on police officer Harrigan, a tough and no-nonsense Lieutenant who's brilliantly portrayed by Danny Glover. Harrigan is investigating a series of bloody murders between rival Jamaican and Colombian drug cartels. And his investigations lead his to discover that a monster from another world has been drawn to the human conflict. In turn, the 'Predator' - who is once again fantastically played by the late Kevin Peter Hall - targets this Lieutenant. And it becomes an all-out showdown between these combatants.
This film offers us a lot more of the Predator. Indeed, the last 30 minutes is non-stop action in which this creature fully presents itself. So if you enjoyed the first instalment in the series, and fancy seeing more of this alien hunter, then this movie is for you! While it's not as great a film as the original, this is nonetheless highly entertaining.
The Blu-ray offers the best available picture and audio quality, and is a great improvement over the earlier DVD release. I highly recommend it.
The Blu ray transfer of this film is very good. Its a clean, sharp and clear copy and unlike its predecessor shows little to no grainyness. The audio track is also HD and a real joy. Unlike so many older films that find there way to blu-ray there are extras on the disk although they are SD they are a welcome addition. My theory is SD Extra's are better than none.
So if the price is right for you, then at the moment there isn't a better vesrion of this movie and to be honest this version is pretty darn fine.
